ChangLu Salt Merchants And The Formation And Development Of Culture In Tianjin

The history of Salt Industry of Tianjin is more than a thousand years longer than the city history.The development and prosperity of Salt Industry played a crucial role in the formation and development of the city's culture.Salt Merchants of this system is the most important factor.In the early founding period of the city,ChangLu salt merchants have already participated in the course of urban construction and cultural development among,making this a unique piece of saline along the forward direction,forming a unique cultural customs and "urban character." Salt merchants' migration,communication,selection and hobbies,etc.,are to lay a deep imprint in Tianjin urban culture and urban character.The focus of this paper is to study what role ChangLu salt merchants played in the formation and development of culture in Tianjin,and how they played the role.In this paper,under the guidance of new cultural history research methods,research methods will be used mainly to historical evidence,not only paying attention to theoretical research,but also to the case studies,the integrated use of research,synthesis,statistics and comparison methods.I chose the role of representative salt merchant family in Tianjin cultural history in the aspects of high culture,the imperial examination,education,and folklore etc.as the main line,introducing the comprehensive utilization of genealogy,local history,historical notes and files,through literature review,to gradually comb the relationship between salt merchant family and the formation and development of Tianjin culture.The thesis includes six chapters.The first chapter is to explain the cultural environment of Tianjin military guard period,to analyze and research the cultural conditions of the time and the basic characteristics of the early history of Tianjin,and to propose direction of investigating cultural development of Tianjin in two main dimensions.The second chapter reviews the rise and development of major ChangLu salt merchant familiy in Tianjin,and analyzes the forces behind the rise of the salt merchants family.The third chapter analyzes the important role of ChangLu salt merchants in the North-South cultural exchanges and the development of Tianjin imperial examination plays,including Tianjin culture of "Jiangnan gene";internal demand literati northward;ChangLu Merchants and Jiangnan literati interaction;ChangLu salt merchants to promote and drive the imperial examination in Tianjin.The fourth chapter elaborated ChangLu salt merchants' promotion to Tianjin high culture,including their achievements in poetry,words,calligraphy,painting and poetry aspects of achievement.In Chapter 5,it is analyzed the contribution of ChangLu salt merchants to the education in Tianjin,focusing on the contribution of the salt merchant family in promoting women's education and the transition of salt merchants in the aspect of modern education.Chapter VI describes the impact of ChangLu salt merchants in Tianjin folk culture.
