Purpose: Taiji's health concept and its traditional health maintenance skills reflect the characteristics of Chinese traditional culture and health cultivation concept of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM).Under the background of vigorously promoting excellent traditional Chinese culture,it is particularly important to deepen the research on Taiji philosophy as well as Tai Chi boxing theory and Tai Chi medical theory.Based on the philosophy of Taiji,this study aims to further explore the relationship between the boxing theory of Tai Chi,named after Taiji,and the significance of TCM health cultivations so as to reveal the important role of Tai Chi in maintaining body and mind health.Methods: Based on searching,collecting and analyzing the ancient classics and modern literature about Taiji philosophy,Tai Chi boxing theory and Tai Chi medical theory,combining with suggestions of experts and my personal practical experience of many years,viewpoints and conclusions in this thesis were consolidated.The study firstly differentiated and analyzed the philosophy of Taiji from three aspects: Taiji characters analysis,Taiji philosophy evolution and Taiji philosophy research.Secondly,the research elaborated the development of Tai Chi boxing and analyzed the Tai Chi boxing theory from eight aspects including the philosophy of Taiji,the theory of promordial Qi,yin and yang,five elements,the thoughts of Taoism,Confucianism,Buddhism and Legalism.Finally,from the perspective of health preserving,the study discussed and explored the Tai Chi's regulating effects on human viscera,meridians,Qi and blood,yin and yang and other aspects.Results: The study shows that Taiji philosophy,deeply influenced by Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism,is based on the theory of Qi,with yin and yang as core,five elements as attributes and Taiji diagram as its intuitive philosophical connotation.Tai Chi,named after Taiji,is based on Taiji philosophy,which corresponds to what is so-called “Tai Chi's root is in Taiji ".The study finds that the whole set of boxing methods vividly reflects the overall concept of TCM and the principle of cultivating both body and spirit.The traditional health preseving thoughts are embodied in the Tai Chi boxing theory,just as what we usually say " boxing is originated from the Book of Changes and based on the medical theory ".Conclusions: 1.The philosophy of " Taiji " has gone through thousands of years of occurrence,development and evolution.Interpreted from the cultural level,it is a huge traditional Chinese philosophy system which absorbs the thoughts of Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism,includes the theory of Qi,yin and yang,five elements,and intuitively represented by the diagram of Taiji.2.“Tai Chi's root is in Taiji".Tai Chi boxing has evolved over hundreds of years to form various schools.However,all schools are deeply rooted in Chinese traditional culture,especially the soil of Taiji philosophy.3.Tai Chi boxing's movement characteristics and training methods have obvious regulating effects on the functions of viscera and channels and collaterals of human body,such as helping to calm the heart,tranquilize the mind,benefit the lung,soothe the liver,regulate the mind,strengthen the spleen,promote digestion,tonify the kidney,strengthen the waist,relax the meridians and unblock the collaterals.4.Taiji philosophy,Tai Chi boxing theory and Tai Chi medical theory promote and influence each other in the aspects of conceptual interpretation,theoretical deepening,popularization and development.Laying equal stress on principles and methods is the basic idea among the three aspects.The combination of cultivating body and spirit is an important content between the three.Taking over from ancient to modern is the requirement of the times of the three.
