objective: Yu Genchu was born in a medical family in Shaoxing,Zhejiang province and well-known in Qianlong Jiaqing period of Qing dynasty.Hundreds of patients could be treated in his clinic for a day.Based on the clinical experience,he completed the writing of Tong Su Shang Han Lun which was called the treatment encyclopedia of the four seasons exogenous disease. After that,,annotations about the book made by He Xiushan,He Lianchen,Cao Bingzhang and Xu Rongzhai had been published. However, the studies of Tong Su Shang Han Lun in later generations were almost focused on the explanation of a few aspects or the well-known parts, and were confused with the thoughts of others. These contentions couldn’t combed the kernel of Yu’s thought exactly. Therefore,in order to demonstrate the syndrome differentiation of Yu Genchu and make the method of six channel commanding the four seasons exogenous disease clear, this paper will analysis the theory of treatment based on six channels proposed by Yu Genchu.methods: The study will be carried out by the methods of repeated literature demonstration in the followed two aspects: 1.To study syndrome differentiation of six channels.in the four gradations: six channels, syndromes of six channels, progressive patterns of six channels, prescriptions of six channel syndrome differentiation.2.To research how to diagnose and treat the four seasons exogenous disease based on the syndrome differentiation of six channels by Yu Genchu.Study the concept of exogenous febrile disease by diagnosing with etiological factor and outlining on cold pathogen of Taiyang, from the point view of cold-evil,cold-evil mixed with other evil,cold-evil mixed with other evil and another disease. Results: 1.Yu Genchu is not a representative of the school of compatibility, but the mainstay of the Shao school of Shanghan.2.The characteristic of six channel proposed by Yu Genchu is that zangfu and meridians is the essence, gasification is the function.3.From the perspective of six channels gasification,Yu Genchu had integrated the syndromes of six channels from Shang Han lun by the categories of manifestation syndrome, root syndrome, middle syndrome and accompanying syndrome. He also added lots of diseases of lung meridian and enriched etiology and pathology of fever coma.4.Transmission is the basic feature of the development of a disease.Yu had enriched and developed the mode of six channel transmission outlined by cold pathogen of Taiyang, depended on fire and water. He had also proposed the three transmissions of mistreatment of Taiyang disease, that are fire transforming, water transforming and fire-water transforming.5.Prescription and syndromes are not only the mainstrain of Tong Su Shang Han Lun but also the permission of the theory of treatment based on six channels.6.The key to resolve the controversy of cold and warm is to pay attention to the research of "disease".7.The basic conception of exogenous febrile disease proposed by Yu Genchu is diagnosing with etiological factor and outlining on cold pathogen of Taiyang.8.Dispelling etiology is the key to cure the four seasons exogenous disease.Stagnation would be opened firstly and Yangming would be the basic. Conclusions: Syndrome differentiation of six channels is the basic method to treat the four seasons exogenous disease. The basic conception of exogenous febrile disease proposed by Yu Genchu is diagnosing with etiological factor, outlining on cold pathogen of Taiyang and integrating six channels.Yu Genchu is not a representative of the school of compatibility, but the mainstay of the Shao school of Shanghan.
