Objective:The paper focuses on exploring the relations between the therapy regularity,potential cause,pathogenesis,and symptoms of constipation by studying the collected medical records and ancient and modern documents through computer data and statistical analysis,in order to provide new insights for the treatment of constipation.Methods:? Collect and classify ancient medical records on the cause and pathogenesis of constipation through TCM philology research;Make thorough analysis and provide a summary of the statements on this disease by physicians of the past ages.?Collect effective medical cases of constipation treatment;standardized the effective information;Establish medical records of Ming,Qing dynasties,the Republican period and the modern times respectively;Build up medical records of chronic constipation and data bases of acute constipation regarding medicines and syndromes.Study the databases via SAS9.1 statistical software with the method of mathematical statics and associate rules and link analysis including frequency factor,cluster and typical cases,during which process the potential relations between symptoms-symptoms,drugs-drugs,symptoms-drugs and the laws of development of pathogenesis and treatment of constipation from the above mentioned dynasties to the modem times are explored;the features and an overview of the cause,pathogenesis,symptoms and treatment of chronic and acute constipation are analyzed.Results:Based on the data analysis,the paper concludes that the constipation locates in the large intestine,and is closely related with other viscera including spleen,liver,lung,kidney,stomach,etc.The paper summarizes relevant predisposing factors and their inner links with constipation types,generalizes the common mono symptomatic and multisymptomatic constipation,provides the basic treatment and common applied prescriptions for constipation based on the drug databases,and explores some prescriptions that have not received enough attention in the traditional treatment.The paper also provides a summary of acute and chronic constipation based on the analysis of their relevant databases,reassesses the direct pathogenesis of constipation and proposes“intestines'not having enough fluids and enough peristalsis”as direct pathogenesis of constipation,the differentiation should base on both direct pathogenesis and indirect pathogenesis standing from Qi and fluid,through a comprehensive study of all the data,so that differentiation could be completed.For the treatment,the principle“clarify the sources and increase peristalsis”should be followed,aiming at“unobstruction" and“peristalsis”,applying flexibly with both purgation and wind medicinal to provide new insights for the treatment of constipation.Conclusions:? The paper summarizes that constipation syndromes includes eight single syndrome types as Yin Jin deficiency syndrome,Qi deficiency syndrome,gastrointestinal and stagnation of Qi,Yang and Qi deficiency,internal organs of the body heat syndrome,dampness and cold stagnation of gastrointestinal syndrome,stagnation,and liver qi stagnation.Besides,six compound syndrome types are also summarized,such as deficiency of Qi and blood that nourishes the large intestine,deficiency of both qi and Yin that moistures large intestine,deficiency of spleen Qi which couldn't transport food,liver qi stagnation which makes spleen and stomach disharmony syndrome,phlegm heat blocking lung qi and fu qi,disharmony between ying and wei.?This paper summarizes 9 kinds of treatment method such as Ziyin Qingre,Hexue Runzao,Yiqi Qimi,Wentong Kaibi,Liqi Tongyou,Qingre Tongfu,Xiaoji Daozhi,Huoxue Huayu,Runxia Tongbian;Summarizes the commonly used herbs,such as Dachengqi decoction,Wen Pi decoction,Wu Ren Pill,etc and find out some prescriptions which we paid little attention on before,such as Guizhi decoction.Xiao Chaihu decoction and radices paeoniae alba,etc.?The high frequency symptoms and drugs of acute constipation and chronic constipation were analyzed,and the characteristics of their respective diseases and the differences between them were summarized.?
