Since the Reform and Opening-up policy,China's economy has made remarkable achievements.Although the extensive development mode has promoted economic growth,it has caused the resource shortage.In addition,the emission of waste during energy consumption has brought serious damage to the environment system,such as global warming,haze,cancer villages caused by water pollution.This damage has posed threat to health of resident and to the sustainable development of economy.As a result,the overall social welfare has been reduced.With the industrialization in China,contradiction among energy utilization,economic development,environmental protection and social has become more and more prominent.Therefore,the incensement of energy eco-efficiency is of great significant to harmonize relationship between these four,and to achieve the sustainable development of economy,as well as ecological civilization construction.The organization of this dissertation is as follows.First of all,it explains the purpose of studying energy eco-efficiency,introduce the research background and point out the significance.Secondly,it figures out the definition of energy eco-efficiency.This efficiency is defined as by providing competitive energy products and services,the impact of energy development and utilization on the environmental system throughout the period will be reduced to below the limit of the Earth's carrying capacity,while contributing to economic growth and social welfare.Thirdly,it evaluates the level of energy eco-efficiency.Values of the efficiency are calculated through SBM model with undesired output.The evolution provincial efficiency is analyzed in time and space aspects.Fourthly,different influence factors are discovered in this research.The mechanism of function to the efficiency is analyzed,and an empirical study is carried out to determinate direction of energy eco-efficiency affected by these influence factors.Finally,the way to increase this efficiency is discussed.Some countermeasures and suggestions are given.The main conclusions of this study include:Firstly,by analyzing the theory,a mutual promoted and contradictory relationship is found between systems of energy,economy,environment and society.Energy eco-efficiency acts as a measure to these four systems.This dissertation has established energy eco-efficiency theory model from input and output perspective by incorporating social system into the traditional energy-economy-environment framework.According to the ideology and principle of index system construction and based on existing research results on single and total factor energy efficiency,the research has built an index system of energy eco-efficiency.Total energy consumption,capital stock and employees are chosen as evaluation index of energy,capital and labor input;and GDP,carbon dioxide emission and living standard are used to measure economic growth,environmental pollution and social welfare.Secondly,relative data is collected to calculate respectively energy economic efficiency,energy environmental efficiency and energy environmental efficiency of 30 provinces from 2000 to 2015.Through comparative analysis,this study has found that the energy environmental efficiency considering undesirable environment output is less than the energy economic efficiency with only economic output.The energy eco-efficiency which takes both undesirable environment and social welfare outputs is the smallest among these three.The data fitting results show that the energy eco-efficiency can be more objective and comprehensive to measure the actual effects of China's energy use on economic and social.Moreover,from the perspective of time change,overall level of energy eco-efficiency in China is relatively low and has a downtrend.The efficiency of the east is the highest,and the level of central as well as western regions is inferior to the national average.There are differences of energy eco-efficiency index in 30 provinces.Analyzing for the spatial aspect,spatial agglomeration is found in China,which means regions with similar energy eco-efficiency are likely to interact.Potential of energy conservation and pollution reduction has been done in 30 regions.Results show that China faces the pressure of energy conservation,especially in Xichuan,Hebei,Shanxi and Inner Mongolia;China's pollution reduction needs to be urged forward in Shanxi,Inner Mongolia,Hebei,Shandong and Henan.Finally,influence mechanism of energy eco-efficiency is analyzed using factors of technological progress,industrial structure,environmental regulation,energy consumption structure,ownership structure,energy endowment,opening-up level,urbanization,energy prices and so on.An empirical study of 30 provinces from 2000 to 2015 has been carried out.As a result,technological progress,environmental regulation,energy endowment,opening-up level and urbanization shows a positive effect on efficiency optimization;however,industrial structure,energy consumption structure,ownership structure and energy prices has a negative effect.The main contribution of this dissertation is: 1)It constructs a theoretical model of energy eco-efficiency based on "energy-economy-environment-society" system perspective.The existing research on energy efficiency mainly discussed relationship between energy and economic systems or the relation of these two with environmental system in addition.Few studies are about the influence of energy to society.2)It integrates social welfare into the framework of energy and environmental efficiency,and constructs the energy eco-efficiency evaluation index.Specifically,it chooses employment rate,education years,per capita,total amount of books per capita,participation rate in social insurance etc.and applies entropy method to calculate social welfare indicators.3)Taking into account the spatial effects of geographical units,it uses the spatial econometric model to measure the influencing factors of provincial energy eco-efficiency in China,which makes the results more scientific and objective.
