Intellectual Property Management In Research University Based On The Theory Of Organizational Ambidexterity

Compare to education and research,university entrepreneurship is receiving more and more academic interest.The research-entrepreneurship heterogenicity notwithstanding,there is the research-entrepreneurship ambidexterity for some universities.The problem is how to achieve the research-entrepreneurship ambidexterity for university dispite the research-entrepreneurship heterogenicity.To solve this problem,this dissertation try to solve the simplified problem that how can Research University promote its entrepreneurial performance by intellectual property manngement.This dissertation explored intellectual property management in Research Universities worldwide to show its tendency.Based on this exploratory research,this dissertation induced the elements of university intellectual property management by case study.One university in US and one university in China was selected for the case studies in consideration of universality and representativeness.Based on the theory of organizational ambidexterity,this dissertation developed a theoretical framework for intellectual property management in Research University.After investigation and survey in the '211 Universities',this dissertation find that the difference in model for intellectual property management in Research University has significant impact on its entrepreneurial performance,and the significant impact factors for two types of university entrepreneurship are different.This dissertation have come to some conclusions as follows:(1)Intellectual property management,as one important administrative function,is becoming more and more independent in university.(2)Intellectual property management is bridge from the research-entrepreneurship heterogenicity to the research-entrepreneurship ambidexterity.(3)Different models of intellectual property management in Research University have significant influence on its entrepreneurial performance.This dissertation have made some theoretical innovations as follows:(1)It revealed the gap and bridge between the research-entrepreneurship heterogenicity and the research-entrepreneurship ambidexterity in university.This could enrich the theory of entrepreneurial university.(2)It expanded the theory of organizational ambidexterity to analyze university intellectual property management.(3)It discussed the mechanism in which intellectual property management in Research University would influence its entrepreneurial performance.This dissertation also could be beneficial for governors and managers in higher education.For example:How to rebuild the IP policy framework for University Entrepreneurship;How to develop mechanism in top hierarchy in university for coordination;How to reengineer the professional University Intellectual Property Management organization.
