As an important means of ancient social governance,enlightening education had played animportant in regime maintenance and social orderregulation.to the Chinese traditional governing strategyof temper justice with mercy this article put forward the general perspective of enlightenment education which includes punishments and courtesy.Zuozongtang is one of the prestigious general officials under prosperous Tongzhi period in late Qing dynasty,with the typical reputation of putting down Hui rebellion and Xinjiang restoration.By tracing down the history of Xinjiang restoration,this article researches with multi-perspectives.The data of the historical documents,under the theory of marxism and interpretation and analysis methodology of history.Based on the principle of seeking truth from facts,the national enlightening education led by Zuozongtang is objectively elaborated,and its thoughts presentation,traits and historical influences are also concluded based on practices,which lead to some historical references for present application.The artical is divided into six chapters,respectively according to the initial backgrounds of the enlightening education theory of Zuozongtang,the formation and its comments as well as lessons of this theory and its practices,this paper presents systematicalresearch on Zuozongtang's enlightening education theory and practices,details of each chapter as follows:The first chapter is introduction.This chapter mainly introduces the significances of research on ZuoZongtang,and its literature review,research plan,as well as the possible innovation and so on.The second chapter is about the apperence of Zuozongtang's national enlightening education ideas.Three aspects are introduced on the historical coming out of ZuoZongtang's national enlightening education thoughts:his family education background and personal study accumulation;the influences from his teachers and friends;and thoughts origins.Confucian school of idealist philosophy of the Song and Ming Dynasties was borrowed and pushed forward on it's theoretical basis.Therefore,a comprehensive applicable function could be seen from Zuo's thoughts.The third chapter is about the thought and practice of people settling.This chapter gives us an elaboration of the background on Hui's rebellion and upheavals in Xinjiang and Zuozongtang's suppressive movements on them,with some conclusions on how to let people settle down.The fourth chapter is about the people prosperity and its practice.This chapterintroduces the moves of economic revitalizationin northwestern China led by ZuoZongtang from the viewpoints of reconstruction of population management and social order,redevelopment of agriculture,and the revitalization of industry and commerce system,a conclusion on the thought of people prosperityis also made in the end.The fifth chapter is about the thought and practice of people enlightening.This chapter discusses the cultural and educational policies issued by ZuoZongtang in northwestern China,mainly on three aspects:the social elite education,the public education,and novel Islamsects prohibition.A summary of this thought is also given in this chapter.People settling,people prosperity,and people enlightening all together form the contents of ZuoZongtang's national enlightening education.The sixth chapter is the comments and lessons on ZuoZongtang's enlightening thoughts and practices.A summary is made Firstly on the traits of this thought according to principles,methods and goals.And then some considerations are left for the positive influences and restrictions of Zuo's thoughts.Eventually a discussion on inspirational significances of present ethnic ideological and political education is proposed by the facts and objective comments and positive absorption on ZuoZongtang's national enlightening education.Mainly applied in the following shared understanding:ethnic harmony is the precondition of economic development and political stability;economic development is the fundamental guarantee of social stabilityand national harmony;enhance the Chinesecultural identity enhancement is the long term policy national harmony.
