As a Buddhist, the writer has been studying Shurangama Sutra for a long time.Da Fo Ding Rulai Miyin Xiuzheng Liaoyi Zhu Pusa Wangheng Shou Lengyanjing is called Shurangama Sutra or Shurangama Samadhi Sutra for short Consisting of ten volumes,Shurangama Sutra is a Buddhist classic with outstanding position and strong influence in the history of Chinese Buddhism. Not only does it serves as a classic to guide practices but also holds profound thoughts and inspires the creation of Chinese literature.Started from Six Roots(the six senses)of Shurangama Sutra, this thesis is designed to discuss whereby it is founded and how to apply in in literary works. It first discusses the concrete connotation of the six roots "life and death and nirvana" of Shurangama Sutra and then justifies its six roots "life and death and nirvana" by example of the root, dust and eye, supplemented by the experimental results from cutting-edge instruments.Secondly, this thesis analyzes the process of "six roots interoperability" of Shurangama Sutra."Six roots interoperability" is that "one root" means six roots.Any sense of them(Eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, mind)has the function of "seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, feeling, knowing".It also explores the different understandings of other Buddhist scriptures on the "six roots interoperability,”and the methods of practice of "six roots interoperability" and its deep ideological basis, that is,all the living beings have Buddha nature. Finally,it deals with the effect of "six roots interoperability" on Chinese literary with simple analysis on Six Roots in Gatha of Zen Buddhism.Under the influence of Shurangama Sutra, the scholars in Song Dynasty contributed to the variety of poetic manifestation by combining"synesthesia" rhetoric with the "six roots interoperability",and also embodies practice of "six roots interoperability" in poetry, where the moment of enlighten appeared out of the disengagement from inner heart in Zen,and characterized Chinese poem with the integration of inner mind with outer environment. In addition,it demonstrates the fantastic state that let nature takes its course, and thus allows the poet to enhance the spirit to cultivate the poetic-conception.As such, the influence of poetics allowed the Buddhists in different periods firstly turned gatha into poetic, revealed enlightenment through gatha, and finally promoted the gatha of Zen Buddhism as the method of practice from the way to express.
