This dissertation is a study of methodology of portraiture of the British painter Francis Bacon.In this paper,we try to understand the artistic nature of the existence of contemporary revealed in Bacon's artwork by studying three elements of his artwork and the relationship between them: contingencies,reality of feeling and temporality.It is an attempt to solve the plight of painting in the era of image media,and to provide new ideas for the development of contemporary painting.This dissertation consists of four parts.The first part analyzes the relationship between Bacon and the portraits of the world art history,and studies the influence of several major aspects and the way of activation and absorption in the order of historical period.The second part deals with Bacon's reproduction and appropriation of images,including film images,photographs,pictures and books and magazines,and preliminary discusses the creative intentions of these reproduction and appropriation.The third part demonstrates Bacon's painting method and the form factor in the picture,including Bacon's studio space,picture strokes and the use of media,color composition and spatial expression.The fourth part is about the temporality in Bacon's portraits.Through the analysis of the meaning of the casualty and the meaning of feeling in the creation,it argues that the real intention of Bacon is to grasp the reality,which transcends the objective coincidence of the object and achieves the capture of the spiritual energy of the object.In general,the expression of the state of human existence in Bacon's portrait is through the performance of the movement and the temporality contained in it.That is why,in the context of contemporary art,his painting transcends mere pictures.
