| This dissertation studies The Chinese Dream of the Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation by Xi Jinping(Japanese Version)(hereinafter referred to as The Chinese Dream)under the theoretical framework of German functional translation theory and other latest research results, using methods like questionnaire survey, translator interview,SPSS analysis, bibliometric study, parallel texts comparison, analyzing the categories and origins of intercultural communicative barriers in Chinese-Japanese translation from the perspective of intercultural communication and in the last, proposing a systematic solution and some suggestions about the translation of CCCPC Party Literature into other languages.German functional translation theory thinks translation as an act of intercultural communication and attaches great importance to the influence of intercultural communication factors during the translation process. On the basis of previous studies, this dissertation proposes a concept, that is,intercultural communication and translation are interrelated: the influence of translation is embodied in each successive steps of intercultural communication;intercultural communication is embodied in the whole translation process as well.Different emphases and forms as reflected in translating cultural conflicts and cultural integration in intercultural communication are means to guarantee the smooth proceeding of intercultural communication activities;while the “communication” purpose of translation highlights the great significance of dealing with intercultural communicative problems. As the translation of any other text,CCCPC Party Literature translation belongs to intercultural communicative act.The proposal of the concept that intercultural communication and translation are interrelated is conducive to solving difficult problems concerning CCCPC Party Literature translation and achieving premium communicative effects.By adopting bibliometric study methods, this dissertation makes a review and analysis about documents concerning intercultural communication translation studies among Chinese and Japanese academia and the translation studies of Chinese leaders’ writings within our two countries. The results shows fewer systematic intercultural communication and translation achievements targeting Chinese-Japanese translation from the perspective of intercultural communication, and almost no intercultural communicative strategy achievement concerning the exploration of Chinese-Japanese social science translation. There is few translation studies about the leaders’ writings from the perspective of intercultural communication, nor researches about intercultural communication translation from the perspective of the leaders’ writings.Hence, the translation of CCCPC Party Literature, especially the area of intercultural communication concerning the Chinese-Japanese translation of the serial talkings of President Xi Jinping,is an area requiring intensified research efforts.Translation studies from the perspective of intercultural communication shall highlight audience effect.During the investigation of audience acceptance situation of The Chinese Dream(Japanese Version),this dissertation conducted two questionnaire surveys. The first survey results show that the audience speak highly of the translation quality, think it understandable and acceptable. In the meanwhile, the audience also reflect that the Chinese style figures of speech, sentiments and attitudes behind the words, disparities between literal and actual meaning all constitute cultural and communicative barriers. In order to further explore the influence of these problems impose on the Japanese translation of The Chinese Dream, this dissertation conducted a second time larger-scale audience questionnaire survey. The first questionnaire survey results show that homographs between Chinese and Japanese constitute a major obstacle in intercultural communication. The existence of homographs is not only a convenience for both Chinese-Japanese and Japanese-Chinese translation, but also a cultural barrier. Therefore,in the second questionnaire survey, this dissertation screened out from The Chinese Dream(Japanese Version)all the homographs in Chinese and Japanese, classifying them and formulating relevant questionnaire contents after systematic analysis with the help of SPSS(Statistical Product and Service Solutions). In addition, the questionnaire made an extensive examination about sentences with parallelism, metaphor, manner of writing, idioms, poems etc.and set options about audience’s judgement about readability, understandability and acceptability of the translated text. The ratings of the surveyed Japanese audience are as follows: average readability rating is 6.12,average understandability is 5.96,average acceptability rating is 5.76.The results manifest that the intercultural communicative effect of the translated text still has a very big room for improvement. On the basis of questionnaire survey, this dissertation makes an analysis mainly from two perspectives, culture and communication. This two factors consist respectively of overt factors and covert factors.Overt factors of culture including national condition, history, vacancy, while covert factors including values, thinking model, cultural set and bias, ethnocentrism, ideology;Overt factors of communication lie mainly in linguistic differences, specifically including homonyms, expressing habits, figures of speech and intertextuality;while covert factors lie mainly in the steps of the translation process, specifically including translation brief, source text analysis and translator “loyalty”.These influence factors manifest themselves extremely obvious through the research results of the second questionnaire survey. For further analyzing how to overcome intercultural communicative barriers and come up with effective translation strategies, this dissertation has also conducted interviews with translators of different languages from Central Compilation & Translation Bureau, exploring the reasons of intercultural communicative barriers in translating CCCPC Party Literature,as well as proposing solutions concerning different reasons.Taking the Japanese translation of The Chinese Dream as an example, this dissertation has solved the 3 following problems: 1.pinpointing two problems,i.e.culture and communication, that need to be solves in translation strategies by systematically analyzing the important role of intercultural communication in Chinese-Japanese translation using the latest translation theories;2.systematically figuring out the basic strategies in CCCPC Party Literature translation by adopting empirical analysis, for example, clear positioning of discourse system, formulation of CCCPC Party Literature translation brief,“priority” in information judgement;3.expounding the generality and specificity of CCCPC Party Literature, pointing out the universality of CCCPC Party Literature as a form of intercultural communication as well as its particularity that distinguishes it from other texts, proposing management principles that put nation at the core.Meanwhile,by combining questionnaire survey and interview, this dissertation also suggests that the promulgation of CCCPC Party Literature shall adopt the “translation + introduction” model. For reason of the above analysis and study, this paper has achieved a breakthrough in relevant areas concerning the Chinese-Japanese research of CCCPC Party Literature, which provides references for the future translation practice and research of CCCPC Party Literature into other languages.Meanwhile, due to limitations of time and circumstances, there are still some shortcoming concerning quantity and quality in this dissertation’s analysis and research, which points this dissertation’s way for future research. |
