Kargilik County is located in the southern bordering remote part of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous region,over seventy-six percent of the land is mountains,this kind of special geographical location and environment determines the residents' unique way of life.Kargilik County is located between Kashgar and Hotan Prefecture,and also the connection part of Xinjiang and Tibet,it is bordering with India,Pakistan and Afghanistan.Kargilik is an important town on the ancient Silk Road.It is an intersection of a variety of civilizations.Because of the long term mutual exchange,contact and impact of the various civilizations and ethnic groups,nowadays it is formed local characteristics of the cultural pattern and unique Kargilik dialect.Kargilik dialect is one of the special sub-dialects of Kashgar dialect which belongs to the standart Uyghur dialect;it combines the characteristics of both Kashgar dialect and Hotan Dialect.In the past,most of the researches on Kargilik dialect mainly focused on phonetics and morphological features.Although,there are also some Kargilik native language vocabulary researches,but they only made partial and simple descriptions.Therefore,it is necessary to carry on further systematic comprehensive research on the Kargilik dialect.This paper is mainly based on the first-hand information which obtained in the process of field investigation,it uses the method of descriptive dialectology and historical comparative linguistics to analyze and describe the vocabulary of Kargilik dialect in a comprehensive and in-depth way.It describes the mixed characteristics of Kargilik dialect which includes both the Kashgar dialect and Hotan dialect.And it also makes further discussion on the similarities and differences between Kargilik dialect and modern Uyghur standard language.This paper gives description on the origin of the Kargilik native language vocabulary,and analyzes the local inherent words in the Kargilik dialect,the Old Turkic words preserved in the Kargilik dialect and the loan words.Meanwhile,from the etymological point of view this paper makes diachronic comparison study on some old words which preserved in local dialect vocabulary,and makes clarification on the evolution of their meaning and usage.Kargilik dialect vocabulary is numerous and its local characteristics are relatively strong.From the perspective of cultural linguistics,this paper summarizes and describes cultural words in Kargilik dialect.This dissertation consists of four parts:the first part is introduction part;the introductory part includes the aim and significance of this study,the research methods,the range of the study,and the geographical overview,population composition and the language of Kargilik,and also illustrations of symbols and abbreviations.The second part is the summary of Kargilik local vocabulary,including the characteristics of Kargilik dialect vocabulary,a comparison between Kargilik dialect and modern Uyghur standard language,the word formation characteristics of Kargilik Dialect Vocabulary.The third part is on the etymology of the Kargilik dialect vocabulary,including the description on the inherent Kargilik local words,the Old Turkic inherent words which preserved in Kargilik local dialect and the loan words from different sources,this part mainly discusses language contact and loan words.This part includes the etymological analyzes on some loan words and local words,etc.The fourth part is on the local culture which is embodied in the Kargilik local language vocabulary,this is mainly composed of local folklore words,place names,personal names and nicknames,religious terms,kinship terms,social terminology,appellations,agricultural terms,animal husbandry terms,the handicraft and industry terms,etc.The last part is conclusion part.
