| Zhong is a highly frequently used word in ancient and modern Chinese,the original meaning of which is a controversial issue and the system of its extended meaning is also complicated.This paper endorse the viewpoint that Zhong originally refered to a gauge rod which can be used for oberserving the solar motion and wind direction,and on this basis it clarify the meaning category benchmark and space and time of Zhong,which are considered to have experienced the most complicated changes,and then find the clues of its extensions.The main scope of research work of this paper is the 1300 entries related to Zhong received in the Big Chinese Dictionary,and during the survey when the auther find the errors in the sence inductions and the meaning explanations in the Big Chinese Dictionary,he will correct them as possible as he can do. |
