Folk belief is the important constituent of Chinese traditional culture, the adequate reflect of religious culture among the people, and the necessary part of daily life for common people.Based on the folk religion of Pre-Qin Dynasty, the folk religion of Han Dynasty absorbed new religious elements, and characterized by personification, secularization, and socialization. In Dynasties of Wei and Jin, with the development of social diversification, the content of folk religion is enriched, ie the religious form was diversified, when the folk religion came to be mature and perfect.Taoism, derived between Han Dynasty and Jin Dynasty, digested the traditional culture, was the refinement of profound Chinese traditional culture.Taoism sprouted, grew, branched, and integrated between Han and Jin dynasty. It is better to say this is an embodiment of the complex social environment than to say it is the development of Taoism.Folk religion and Taoism coexist in the society of Han and Jin Dynasty. There is much in common between them, which is the base of their interaction.Firstly, as believes, folk religion and Taoism share the same resource, ie original admiration, folk witchcraft, immortality idea, traditional thought and culture.Secondly, both of them share the same religious carrier, and they are similar in religious transmitting, cultural propagating, and artificial disseminating. They are much alike in these aspects. Lastly, folk belief and Taoism are closely related in social practice. They share the same subject of social practice, the same social environment, and the similar terminal purpose. All above consists of the practical and theoretical similarities between them, which laid a foundation for both of them to absorb from each other.Folk belief sprouted much earlier than Taoism which derived from the former. Generally, Tao absorbed and digested the marrow of folk believes. Tao based itself on the folk believes. The course of integration of Taoism mainly occurred in Han dynasty and Jin dynasty. Folk belief created many religious idols. Generally, the religious idols are grouped into paradise idols and earth idols, ie they are classified into paradise religious system and hell religious system.Taoism integrated the idols into its own religious idols.Actually, Taoism doesn't curtly borrow and absorbed the folk belief, but regularly selected some of the idols which were closely related to people's lives and production, for example, in the paradise religious system, Beidou and Siling, in the earth religious system, Wuyue, Kunlun, including the humanlike religious idol Xiwangmu (a Goddess), they are widely respected, therefore, such are inevitably absorbed by Taoism. The integration of folk belief by Taoism not only enriched the contents and forms of Taoism, but revived the folk belief as well.To some extent, in Han Dynasty and Jin Dynasty, folk belief and Taoism were still different from each other. They fought as well as united. The differed from society attributes, activity forms, and emotion expressions. The difference can be ascribed to the system, ceremony, and some other factors. What's more, folk belief and Taoism are different as for carrier. The concrete contents and religious form are radically different, which led to the radical difference in religious emotion expressing.
