Theoretical Study On Disease Prediction In Huang Di Nei Jing

Disease prediction is an inherent part of traditional Chinese medicine.In history,the ability to predict disease accurately was often regarded as a sign of medical excellence.In modern society,accurate prediction of disease could make opportunities and time for prevention,help to avoid unfavorable factors and alleviate the pain and loss of the diseases.Accurate prediction of infectious diseases is particularly valuable,which helps to avoid the loss of social wealth effectively.As an important book of traditional Chinese medicine,the Yellow Emperor’s Canon of medicine has recorded a large number of documents related to the disease prediction.It is an important material for us to study the theory and method of TCM disease prediction.The research on the theory of disease prediction in Yellow Emperor’s Canon of medicine is helpful for us to inherit the achievements of the ancients in the field of disease prediction,tounderstand the thinking methods of the ancients,and to provide the materials and ideas for the modern researches about disease prediction.Combined with the modern data research methods,it also helps to verify the scientific nature of the disease prediction theory of Yellow Emperor’s Canon of medicine,and find out the new value,and also solve the old problems in the theory of traditional Chinese medicine.In this paper,the theory recorded in Yellow Emperor’s Canon of medicine was discussed from three aspects.The first part is the literature research.This paper made a literature review from two aspects:the thinking method of prediction and the content of prediction.From the view of thinking method,we can sum up the contents of four aspects:prediction of normal,prediction of abnormal,prediction of divination and the prediction of Yunqi.And according to the prediction content,there were three parts,the prediction of disease occurrence,the prediction of disease prognosis and the prediction of death,summarized.And according to the object of the prediction it can be divided into group prediction and individual prediction.It was described in the form of "summary" in the text,and the complete literature was found in the appendix.The second part is theoretical research.The theoretical basis and thinking methods of disease prediction in Yellow Emperor’s Canon of Medicine were discussed in this part,and the two main theoretical foundations,the concept of Qi and the periodic thought,were summarized.The basic idea of the disease prediction is to calculate the property and function of the Qi,and then according to the relationship between the Qi and the substance,make the corresponding prediction.Identifying the property and function of Qi is a key step in disease prediction.Yin and Yang(including Sanyin Sanyang)and the five elements are the theoretical tools to grasp the properties of Qi.The growth and decline of yin and Yang,and the restraint of the five elements are the main forms of the interaction of qi.Periodic theory is the deepening and interpretation of the theory of Qi,the periodic movement of the Qi causes the reciprocal changes of all things.The periodic theory of the Yellow Emperor’s Canon of Medicine contains the cycles of nature and the human body,the cycle of the human body can also be called "biological rhythm",the two are often synchronized,which embodies the idea of "harmony between human and nature".For the diseases,they are affected by various natural cycles and human biological rhythms,the ideal disease prediction is to take all the cyclical factors into account,but in fact it is impossible and unnecessary.According to the characteristics of the disease,it will be enough to take into account the closely related factors to achieve the purpose of prediction.It is an important research content to find the periodic factors which are significantly related to specific diseases.Applications of a variety of cycles to predict,such as the daily cycle,the 10 day cycle,the monthly cycle,the annual cycle,the 60 year cycle,etc.were discussed in the Yellow Emperor’s Canon of Medicine.However,each discussion on the cycle were carried out separately,they should be integrated in the application.This part also discussed the divination recorded in the Yellow Emperor’s Canon of Medicine.The chapter of "Jiugong Bafeng" established a model of observing the wind direction to predict diseases,and the chapter of "Suilu Lun" supplemented the model and made it perfect.Divination prediction also used the theory of Qi and the theory of cycles.The third part is the data research,including the two sections.The first section is the analysis of 5 influenza pandemics in history.It was found that the Yunqi backgrounds of the 5 influenza pandemics had the same situation of "YunQi Tonghua",which means the Yun and Qi transform into a same property(the Yun and Qi of 1918 and 1968 transform into a property of fire,and 1957 gold,1977 wood,2009 earth).This result suggests that "YunQi Tonghua" is a necessary but not sufficient condition for influenza pandemic.The second section is the study on the data of influenza epidemic in Beijing in 46 years.It is found that the ZhuYun and the ZhuQi of fire are the inhibitory factors of influenza,the ZhuYun and the ZhuQi of water are promoting factors,while the KeYun of fire is inhibitory factor to non seasonal influenza(influenza occurred not in winter),and promoting factor to seasonal influenza.The KeQi of Taiyin is also inhibitory factor to non seasonal influenza.Influenza is an infectious disease caused by the Qi of "water",and the factors that affect the "water" will inhibit the occurrence of influenza.The study also found that,the relationship between KeYun and KeQi had an impact on the incidence of influenza.The relationships of "KeYun promoting KeQi" and "KeYun is same to KeQi "were inhibitory factors,while the relationships of "KeQi promoting KeYun" and "KeQi restricting KeYun" were promoting factors.The study on the data of influenza showed that the theory of disease prediction of Yellow Emperor’s Canon of Medicine is of great value,and the disease prediction under the guidance of the theory of Qi and the cycle theory has some practical significance.
