Science of acupuncture and moxibustion is an important part of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM).And with its great clinical effects,acupuncture science has become a significant field of TCM treatment for diseases.Acupuncture literature has documented the contents of acupuncture science,and the earliest one is Classic of Acupuncture(Zhen Jing)written by Huangdi,which is known as Canon of Medicine and Miraculous Pivot(Huangdi Nei Jing and Lin Shu Jing)in nowadays.Thereafter,came out Huangfu Mi's A-B Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion(Zhenjiu Jia Yi Jing)which became China's first treatise on acupuncture science.Since then,there had been a steady flow of works on acupuncture science.And countless works were also found in medical literature.Whereas,it is a matter for regret that works survive today are quite few,and some of them are just left with titles rather than contents.A large amount of medical literature was unearthed at Mo Kao Grotto at Dunhuang,including five acupuncture broken scrolls,namely A-B Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion(Zhenjiu Jia Yi Jing),Huangdi Acupoint Chart(Huangdi Ming Tang Jing),Acupoint Chart of Moxibustion(Jiu Jing Ming Tang),Moxibustion Chart(Jiu Jing Tu)and New Collection of Moxibustion for Emergency(Xin Ji Bei Ji Jiu Jing).What's more,certain studies on acupuncture and moxibustion were also preserved in other medical classics and prescriptions.Through an introduction to a brief survey and the current research status of Dunhuang acupuncture and moxibustion literature,the paper discussed the value of the literature and came up with the conclusion that the emergence of the literature would not only compensate for the loss of the surviving ancient classics of medicine but also correct the errors appeared in those classics.Meanwhile,the literature also preserved many Shu-acupoints not recorded in the former classics and new moxibustion therapy.The paper has conducted an intensive study on five Dunhuang acupuncture literature from various perspectives,namely,literature forms,naming of books,textual research on ages,etc.Moreover,a detailed recording and correction were made in part ? of the paper.In addition,the paper studied on the circulation relationship between the surviving ancient classics of medicine and Dunhuang acupuncture literature and dug their philology value and medical value behind.The paper also made an exploration into the relationship between the pulse-taking and acupuncture in Dunhuang medical literature and sorted out the contents concerning with the science of acupuncture and moxibustion in Dunhuang prescription literature,especially the Shu-acupoints involved to comprehend the evolution of Shu-acupoints from which.In fact,many precious Shu-acupoints missing in the existing classics of medicine were found in the process.Finally,the paper tracked down the records of taboos between man and God in Dunhuang acupuncture literature and compared them with those documented in the surviving ancient classics of medicine to explore the inheritance relationship between them.
