Building, which is composed of the space and entity with building materials, is the primary place for people’s living and production and it is the core element of 3D city. However the modeling of building for public service should not only consider the exterior of the building but the interior of the building and the relationship of exterior and interior of the building should be modeled as well to implement the interior-exterior holistically expression of building. So it requires the new generation of building data models containing the semantic information of interior and exterior environment of building, which can implement the overall expression of geometry,evolution, semantics, relationship and the attribute information of building.Building can be divided into civilian construction, industrial construction and agricultural construction according to its type. Civilian construction is for people to live and do various public activities,which has the closest relationship with people’s living and working. From the perspective of geography research, this paper combines architectural science, building information model and other multi-disciplinary expertise, based on the basic concept and characteristics of the building, to analyze relevant information of the building and construct a data model which can completely describe the semantic, geometry, relationship and attribute information of the building.The model can completely describe the information of the building, support the expression of the building under multiple levels of detail, and effectively implement the integrated analysis and visualization of interior and exterior of the building. The main contents of this paper include:1) The analysis of the semantics, geometry, attribute and relationship information of the buildingBased on the authoritative monograph of architecture as well as the relevant standards at home and abroad, this section combs and summarizes the definition,classification and the hierarchy level relationships of the building elements and space,then analyzes their geometrical form, the attribute information and further classifies their relationship, which lays the solid basis for the foundation of the data model construction.2) The designation of interior and exterior holistic building data modelAccording to the definition of the space data model, this section analyzes the contents involved in a building data model. Then,based on the geometry information,semantics information, relationship information and attributes information, the concept model,logic model,physical model and operation of the building data model are built in this section.3) The support of the interior and exterior holistic building data model for the expression under multiple levels of detailAccording to the multiple levels of detail proposed by CityGML, this section divides the levels of detail of the building data model proposed by this paper, and then analyzes the related building elements and space as well as building relations under different levels of detail. This section also extracts them respectively from the sets of the building data model proposed by this paper in order to implement the expression of building under different levels of detail.4) The support of the interior and exterior holistic building data model for spatial analysis of the buildingFrom the semantics, geometry and relationship information of the building data model, this section analyzes the extraction methods of the related building elements,building space and building relations in a specific area of the building. Based on this,the respective methods of building’s solid boundary extraction,spatial discretion and connected network generating are also analyzed in order to support relevant spatial analysis of building.The innovations of this paper are as follows:1) An interior and exterior holistic data model of building is designed by this paper, which can adequately describe the associated entities and the interrelations of the building by abstracting the semantics, geometry, attributes and relationship information of the building.2) Although the building data model is not designed to meet any specific analysis application, it can be transformed to the relevant application analysis model based on the semantics, geometry and attribute information of the building elements and space.So, it can support a variety of application analysis of the building.The research of interior and exterior holistic building data model is an in-depth exploration in 3D city. It further improves the theoretical system of simulation and analysis of interior and exterior of the building in geographical scene. The solution to the related problem of the model can provide support for the multi-purpose application, intelligence and expression of the building under multiple levels of detail,which completely breaks through the interaction between the geographic information science and building science.
