Study On The Development Of Muskmelon Industry Economy In China

As one of the world’s most important fruit, with the characters of short cultivation cycle, relativelyhigh rate of input and output, obvious income effect, Muskmelon has become an efficient andeconomical cash fruit crops. Cultivating muskmelon has also become an effective way to realize thegoal of income increment for those farmers who make living on the cultivation. Based on the fullyunderstanding and reference to domestic and foreign theories and research results, this thesis makes ancomprehensive, system research from the production and supply, consumption and demand, circulationand trade and other aspects, explores the development regularity of the China’s muskmelon industry andexisting problems, and provides sufficient theoretical basis and scientific decision-making foundationfor the healthy, steady development of China’s muskmelon industry.China’s muskmelon production basically showed a steady development trend, and has obviousregional comparative advantage. From the provincial distribution of China’s muskmelon production in2012, the top five provinces are Xinjiang, Shandong, Henan, Hebei, Inner Mongolia, while, Henan,Shandong, Xinjiang, only these three provinces’ muskmelon production accounted for45.48%of thetotal output of the muskmelon; From the development of Muskmelon Planting China production regions,north of China cultivation region has prominent scale advantage, has become our country’s largestmuskmelon production area, while, north west of China cultivation region develops rapidly and hasbecome the second muskmelon production area.Through the measurement on the production efficiency muskmelon production during2010-2012for eighteen provinces in China, the results show that:China’s muskmelon overall production efficiencyis high, but there is structural, regional investment surplus problem in production input; Through theanalysis of farmers’ production behaviors for nineteen provinces in China, the results show that: farmers’sex, age, level of education, the planting area, production, farming population, family income and thebelonging of economic area have different degree of effect on the demand of different types ofmuskmelon cultivation technology.China’s muskmelon consumption level has rising greatly, consumers’ behaviors have greatdifferences between regions. Through the analysis of the three regions of Beijing, Liaoning, Henanurban residents’ consumption behavior of muskmelon, the results show that these three areas of urbanresidents are quite different in Muskmelon purchase frequency, purchase channels, consumption volume,consumer preferences, consumer satisfaction. By using the Logit-model to analyze the factors affectconsumers’ consumption decisions-making, the results show that factors of sex, age, level of education,family population, income level etc. have impacts on the consumers’ purchase behavior of muskmelon.Muskmelon market circulation system is not perfect, the international competitiveness of theindustry is significantly weak. At present, the modernization level of muskmelon market circulation islow, the scale of the circulation body is small, too many market circulation proceedings etc. are stillprominent problems which restrict the development of China’s muskmelon market circulation. Althoughin recent years the international muskmelon trade in China develops rapidly, the overall scale of trade is still relatively small, one-way trade characteristic is very obvious, export trade market are tooconcentrated. The increasing costs of production, the lack of production technical support, the degree ofindustrial organization is low, and the related and supporting industry competitiveness is low, thesefactors have seriously restricted the international competitiveness of China’s muskmelon industry.Based on the above research, this thesis proposes the following policy recommendations:Gradually improve the science and technology innovation system, actively develop pollution-freeproduction, accelerate the research and development of the postharvest handling and processingtechnology, promote the extension of industrial chain; Strengthen the government and the marketguidance, make out the relevant supporting policies, fully motivate farmers’ production enthusiasm;Make efforts to improve the industrial level of muskmelon industry, put forward the muskmelon brandconstruction, actively explore the new mode of muskmelon sales circulation, enhance the circulationefficiency of muskmelon product, improve the construction of the quality and safety system,continuously strengthen the market competitiveness of Muskmelon in china.
