A Research On Textual Gesture And Structural Configuration Of George Benjamin’s Ringed By The Flat Horizon

England composer George Benjamin is one of contemporary composers who have most significant international influence in modern time. Benjamin is accomplished in constructing and developing the musical textual gesture, and made it to be the basic elements of his composition. His sensitive on sound gives him an exquisite and out-imaged ability on the combination of instruments which result the variety and surprise sound.At his age of20, the orchestra work Ringed by the Flat Horizon of his got a great backwash upon the first performance, and so make Benjamin a reputation international. This dissertation takes this work as an example to research the structural configuration and textual feature of his composition. For the research of the textual feature, the author focus on the textual not only of those bell ding, flash and thundery, but also a specific textual developed by the composer, i.e. mosaic textual. For the structural configuration part, is aimed at the whole structure of the work and the structural counterpoint.The dissertation has three chapters which based on the discussion with illustration and scores:ChapterⅠintroduce briefly of his man and his music, include a outline of his life, composition process, technique feature and the factors influence on his composer career.ChapterⅡis an analysis of his large orchestra work Ringed by the Flat Horizon focus on the textual feature, included the those bell textual, flash textual, thunder textual, mosaic textual, the timbre melody conjuncture textual and the sound-mass textual.ChapterⅢresearched the structural configuration of the Ringed by the Flat Horizon, not only the analysis in the traditional method, but also in a multi-vision to discover the phenomena of the structural contraposition.
