"Living Together In Harmony And Unity":Xun Zi’s Social Ethics Thought Study

Xun Zi was thinker and educationist in the last time of the Warring States. Xun Zi’s thought was epitome of pre-Qin various schools of thoughts. The theory of Xun Zi which was important part of traditional culture influenced traditional culture in China deeply. During the time of the Warring States, the princes annexed and the school advocated various theories. Xun Zi criticized and absorbed the core of thoughts of the pre-Qin philosophers, rebuilding the system of the pre-Qin Confucian school "living together in harmony and unity" social ethics thought. Xun Zi social ethics thought not only involved system of ritual and music to rebuild, but also built the theory foundation of Qin Dynasty uniting China.The time of the Warring States was transformation period. It was a trend which social ethics thought appeared that inherited and exchanged continuously when the school advocated various theories. The Shang period which respected god and lead the people, the Western Zhou Dynasty created ritual and music, the Spring and Autumn which system of ritual and music collapsed. It was history background of Xun Zi social ethics thought. Royal family of Zhou declined. The princes hoped to compete by strength and established a capital in China. Status of intellectuals rose sharply and unceasingly and social stratum flowed quickly.There was long, great, radical change in China. It was the society condition Xun Zi lived. There was great change of politics and economy structure in pre-Qin period. The different philosophers and authors were instead of interest who wrote books and exposed current social problem and formed "A hundred schools of thought contend" social thought current which was source of Xun Zi’s social ethics thought.Which Xun Zi’s "living together in harmony and unity" social ethics thought was the group of people how to harmonize. Xun Zi used "People could not have without the group",."Delimiting the benefit boundary to cause the human to form the community to live in together "," Honoring rites and paying attention to laws ","The king had ability of gathering and was good at doing" explained the ethical idea and perfect state. Xun Zi realized that ideal condition of the harmony was "the group" and "living together in harmony and unity" were ideal harmonious condition which Xunzi was eager to seek for.Theory of heaven and man, human nature and knowledge were philosophy foundation of Xun Zi’s social ethics thought. Man was the core of heaven and human relationship. In a sense, the theory of heaven and man was political philosophy which provided theory basis of XunZi ’S political proposition. Theory of human nature was another philosophy foundation of Xun Zi’s social ethical.He debated relationship of human evil nature from Xing and Xin, between theory of Xing and culture and argumentation of good and evil, theory of Xing was bad and "living together in harmony and unity". Xun Zi tried to explain "Dispelling Blindness" and "On the Correct use of Nature", analyzed connection of making clear the blindness, correct using of names and "living together in harmony and unity" ethical thought.Xun Zi realized "governing by ritual" that was manageable tactics which achieved social thought of Xunzi "living together in harmony and unity".He built the system of ruling by rituals which ritual was theory of human nature, respecting rituals and practical law and music, the practical way of good government,enriching country and warfare as practiced by the humane man.Xun Zi argued "Each of the myriad things must be in a harmonious relation with Nature in order to grow","Morality and justice was used to divide society into classes, concord would result","Concord between the classes and unity would result". He explained harmonious condition of man and nature, between human, human and society.Xun Zi rebuilt system of social ethics and emphasized Human eternal theme was harmony. It was very important practical value that Xun Zi’s social ethics.
