The research on the mongolian stress is one of the main aspects of mongolian prosody study. It is one of the most important research subjects of the speech engineering. On the basis of previous studies, this paper systematically explores the Mongolian Khalkha dialect stress using acoustic analysis and perceptual experiment. This paper mainly consists of three parts:Firstly, based on the characteristics of10short vowels and8long vowels in the khalkha dialect, this thesis intensively explores the word stress. Secondly, the word stress in the phrases and phrase highlight problem is reviewed. Thirdly, this paper analyzes the word stress in sentence and explores the accent under the different sentence patterns. The main conclusions are as follows:1) The author agrees with that the Mongolian has word stress phenomenon, but it has no function differences in the meaning. From the acoustics analysis, the pitch, intensity and duration of one syllable in a word differ from those of other syllables. The perception experiments show that native speakers can discriminate between the high and low, strong and weak syllables. Mongolian syllable prominence is the unit of word stress.2) The pitch, duration and intensity have different effects on the Mongolian stress. Tests show that the effect of pitch is more prominent than others. If pitch value is relatively close and unable to distinguish, then the influence of duration and intensity is considered.3) The position of stressed syllable is closely related to the distribution of the long and short vowels. Acoustic analysis and perceptual experiments come to a similiar conclusion:In the word containing one long vowel syllable, word stress falls on the syllable with long vowel; in the word containing two or more syllables with long vowel, word stress falls on the front syllable with long vowel; in the words consisted of the short vowel syllable, word stress falls on one non-initial syllable, but which non-initial syllable is selected is not stable.4) The accentual distributions in sentence appear different in dissimilar sentences. Intonationl phrase is the scope of accent. The quantity of intonation phrase is decided by the number of accents. Prosodic word prominence is the unit of accent. In declarative sentence, rhetorical question, interrogative sentence without interrogative words and suggest imperative sentence, the accent always falls on a stressed word. In non-interrogative sentence, the positive words have the accent. In particular questions sentence, interrogative pronouns assume the accent. In the alternative question sentence, the former alternative assumes the accent. In injunctive imperative sentence, command verb and prohibitive function words assume the accent. In the exclamatory sentence, its accent always falls on the interrogative pronoun without questionable meaning or a stressed word.
