The Zen Buddhism between China and Vietnam has obvious kinship. The Sixth Patriarch of Zen Buddhism Hui Neng and Chen Renzong Zen’s thinking has many similarities, and both have made outstanding contributions to the localization of Buddhism. As a Vietnamese disciple of Buddha, I have the responsibility to trace the source of these, to study and realize that the more Zen Buddhism roots in the evolution of the relationship.I have chosen the representatives in Zen Buddhism as the major research objects; they are Hui Neng and Chen Renzong, which acts as an entry pointing to the similarities and differences between the two. I am trying to dig up the national characteristics of Vietnamese Zen Buddhism.Based on the above understanding, my paper is divided into seven chapters, including the introduction, which is a total of eight parts. The introduction section describes the origin of the study, data sources, research methods, research ideas and framework. The first chapters explain the origin of Zen Buddhism. This part has made the necessary investigation on the origin of Zen Buddhism, and has been combing the inheritance and development of the Buddhism Thought from the Sakyamuni Buddha, Bodhidharmato Hongren to Hui Neng. The second chapter mainly states the Sixth Patriarch of Zen Buddhism Hui Neng’s life experience and his Zen Buddhism theory. Using Reflection of Life research methods in this chapter, I want to explore the social and political background of the theory of the Sixth Patriarch of Zen Buddhist theoretical background and make some elucidation. The third chapter is stand-alone chapter, which highlights the features of the practice feature of Huineng’s Zen Buddhist thoughts, pointing out the unique characteristics of Zen Buddhism:the practice principle blend Prajna concept, practice concept and View of Mind, to advocate not read cases, epiphany Buddhahood religious practices of his party Samadhi. The fourth chapter outlines the history of the development of the Vietnamese Buddhism; this part has hightlighted the trend of the times of bamboo Zen’s development. Before and after the introduction of Buddhism in Vietnam, the Vietnamese culture change is reflected in the trajectory of the development of Buddhism in Vietnam. From the Northern times, the development of the three major trends, followed by the inheritance and development of bamboo Zen faction, and this gradually has achieved a Buddhist Vietnamization. The fifth chapter concentrates on introducing Chen Renzong and bamboo Zen faction. This part investigates Chen Renzong’s life and works, based on which it also examines the source of the Buddhist and expounds its Zen thinking connotation.Chapter VI has combed the Bamboo Zen faction’s heritage and the principles, methods of practice, including the Vassa and monastic life.Chapter VII has compared the similarities and differences between the Chen Renzong and Hui Neng’s thoughts, including examination of the life experience, as well as practice for both the Buddhist concept of consciousness plus Buddhist investigation of localization. On this basis, I have made a summary to highlight the outstanding contributions of these two great Zen Patriarch.
