| The landscape gardening activities in Vietnam were centered on Hue royal garden, whichhappened in the feudal period of Nguyen Dynasty of Vietnam. This period marks the maturityand climax of the whole Vietnamese landscape gardening history. The thesis, throughcollecting and analyzing the Vietnamese historical records based on concrete investigationinto the current Hue garden, has studied the landscape gardening art of Vietnamese Hue royalgarden and summarized the experiences and characteristics of landscape gardening inVietnamese Hue royal garden by studying the foreign culture and foreign landscape gardeningmethod (mainly Chinese and French methods) and from the perspectives of the landscapegardening ideas, garden aesthetics and landscape gardening method of Vietnamese Hue royalgarden.The above-mentioned content is the dissertating frame of this thesis. The full text isdivided into eight chapters, including the introduction and thesis content. The chapter I is theintroduction which mainly analyzes the meaning of the study of this thesis, puts forward theobject and scope of the study of this thesis and understands the current study situation of thissubject in Vietnam and forefathers’ achievements; and it puts forward the concept of“understanding the landscape gardening art from the perspective of China’s theory onlandscape gardening”. The introduction also analyzes the purpose and meaning of the study ofthis thesis, which is favorable to the development orientation of Vietnam’s modern landscape.The content of the thesis is divided into pieces:The content of the first piece of the thesis concerns the Vietnamese factors influencinglandscape gardening. The chapter II in it mainly deals with the environmental factor inlandscape gardening in Vietnam and studies and analyzes the geographical landform, climatecharacteristics, natural scenery, cultural environment, national customs, etc. in Vietnam in anall-round way; and all these constitute the prerequisite and foundation of landscape gardeningart and have great influence on landscape gardening art and method. The chapter III mainlydeals with the aesthetic origin and characteristics of landscape gardening in Vietnam, and itfirst analyzes the aesthetic origin of the Vietnamese with the study mainly proposing theviewpoint that “the Vietnamese aesthetics in landscape gardening originates from thecombination of the aesthetic thought of the oriental garden and aesthetic characteristics of theVietnamese”; it expounds the influence of the aesthetic thought of the oriental garden onChinese garden and Vietnamese landscape gardening art in detail; in addition, it points out that the Vietnamese aesthetic characteristics such as paying attention to the beauty of“succinctness, plainness, harmony and lightness” also directly influences Vietnam’s Huelandscape gardening art. The chapter IV mainly deals with Vietnam’s landscape gardening andinfluence of foreign cultures. Vietnam belongs to Chinese cultural circle, so it has beeninfluenced by Chinese culture and politics for a long time. First, it analyzes the backgroundfor cultural exchange between China and Vietnam for several thousand years, pointing out thephilosophic ideas in Chinese culture such as Confucianism, Taoism, Yin and Yang, FiveElements, Feng Shui, etc. have influenced China’s landscape gardening art and Hue landscapegardening art in Vietnam; and the Buddhism spread to Vietnam from India and China alsoinfluences Vietnam’s landscape gardening art. Though French culture influences Vietnam’spolitics, culture, architecture and garden art, it cannot completely replace the influence ofChinese culture which has lasted for several thousand years.The content of the second piece of the thesis concerns the artistic Characteristics ofVietnamese Hue royal garden. The chapter V in it mainly deals with the distribution relationof the overall planning of Hue capital city and Hue royal garden. As for the overall planningof Hue capital city, it puts forward the characteristics in arrangement:“axial symmetry”,“ancestors in the front and palace in the rear” and “offices in the front and garden in the rear”.On one hand, this is influenced by the characteristics of Chinese urban planning, and on theother hand it inherits the characteristics of Vietnam’s ancient urban planning, namely it isinfluenced by the climate and geographic characteristics in the area of Hue. And then, itfocuses on analyzing the artistic characteristics in landscape gardening of Vietnamese Hueroyal garden; classifies all the gardens according to their overall arrangements; and putsforward the spatial artistic characteristics of all gardens through comparison. The chapter VImainly deals with the artistic characteristics of the royal mausoleum garden of Hue. First, itanalyzes the position relation of Hue city and royal mausoleum group and then classifies allthe gardens according to their overall arrangements, finding out the spatial artisticcharacteristics of the mausoleum gardens by analyzing the similarities and differences of allgardens. The chapter VII mainly makes overall comparison of Chinese gardens andVietnamese Hue royal garden in aspects such as landscape gardening method, arrangement ofscenic spots and artistic creation of scenic spots. It highlights the unique style of VietnameseHue royal garden through analyzing the similarities and differences of gardens in China andVietnam. Its unique style stems from Vietnam’s climate characteristics and besides thatVietnam’s native culture and traditional architecture have an influence upon the space of thegarden. The chapter VIII mainly deals with the landscape gardening skill, including the relationship between the garden architecture and water scenery, the garden’s architecturalform and demonstration, and water system layout and mountain piling in the garden, payingattention to analysis of the relation between the building and water scenery in the garden andhighlighting the functions of waterside pavilions in Vietnam’s gardens. |
