In this paper airflow distribution in small size rules tunnel at period of normal ventilation is researched by experiment. Based on hydrodynamic theory and experimental results, wind distribution characteristics on cross-section are analyzed. Then two new concepts of "characteristic ring" and "key ring" are proposed. Airflow distribution status in rules tunnel which is with the same size of experimental tunnel is simulated. The accuracy of simulating ventilation in tunnel is verified by experiment. According to quantitative analysis of the simulation results, the characteristic equations of "key ring" in rules tunnel are obtained. Based on the above research, airflow distribution in irregular heart arch-sectional tunnel at period of normal ventilation is researched by numerical simulation. Conditions of using "key ring" of regular heart arch-sectional tunnel on convex body section tunnel are obtained. In the meantime, airflow distribution status of regular heart arch-sectional tunnel at the period of fire is simulated, and the application range of "key ring" of regular heart arch-sectional tunnel at the period of fire is also obtained. And the application of "key ring" in monitoring of air volume of tunnel are discussed. The research results provide new theoretical support for measuring average wind speed and air volume accuratly and are of profound application significance.
