Human society is going into the age of intelligence rapidly. As the ability ofproblem solving with information and knowledge, intelligence is already becomemain energy of knowledge economy Age. How to provide high quality service withintelligence and to intellectual activities are two important issues of modern serviceindustry development. Intermediary is such activity which connects two or multiplesocial agents. Instead of service only transferring materials and energy intellectualintermediaries who provide information, knowledge and solution service are graduallybecome mainstream in social system. Social networks are underpinnings andplatforms to intermediary activity. It is significant to the capacity of intellectualintermediary service that their structure and evolution influence intellectualintermediary service and become the main topic of this dissertation. In order to find new explanation perspective to certain social phenomena andprovide foundations to manage intellectual intermediary service, this dissertationtakes intellectual intermediary service in complex social networks as research objectand conducts qualitative and quantitative research on it’s functional mechanism withagent based modeling and simulation on complex social networks.A three-demensional model with problem, resource and relational dimension isput forward to analyze the functional mechanism of intellectual intermediary service.By several example analyse, intellectual intermediary service is induced to four forms. It is emvedded in during customers’ problem solving process and comes into play atrelational dimension. The fundamental function of it is to establish and interfere with problem solving network. It’s value is presented by the ratio between marginaloutcome and marginal cost of all agents involved in the service. With modeling and simulation on certain content, quantitative research isconducted to analysis how the characteristics of complex social network influence thefunctions and value of intellectual intermediary service. Firstly, sensitivity of matchmechanism and distribution of nodes payoffs to match function is investigated.Differences result form diffent payoff distribution is varied with match mechanisms.Differences in Gale-Shapley match is reduced with the increase of network scale. Thatindicates the important to appropriate mechanim chosen and payoff information inmatching process. Secondly, social networks hinder exchange function as well asfacilitate it. Direct friction is defined to describe exchange difficulty nodes faced andindirect friction to competition effect of them. Results show that average frictions andtheir optimization are influenced by the ratio of demand and supply, degree of trust, network average degree and network density. The optimization performance ofexogenous intellectual intermediary service is superior to endogenous service. Thirdly,The value if intellectual intermediary service is co-created by intellectual intermediaryand network. Network embedded value which reflects their symbiotic relationship isdefined to describe it and cost and price condition of intellectual intermediary serviceexistence are obtained. Results show that network embedded value is influenced bynodes fitness, ability of intellectual intermediary, price and network degreedistribution.Qualitative analysis is conducted to the evolution of regional innovation network, financial intermediary network and scientific collaboration network. Internalmechanism of sustaining innovation of Silicon Valley and the outbreak of subprimecrisis with match, friction and network embedded value and suggestions to researchpolicy making is promoted. It is indicated that evolutional condition and direction ofintellectual intermediary service’s fundamental functions in regional innovationnetwork and financial regulation. There are three main contributions in this dissertation. Firstly, new measurementof exchange network—direct friction and indirect friction is puts forward to describedifficulty and competition effect. It is found that average frictions and its optimization are influenced by network characteristics. Secondly, new measurement of intellectualintermediary service value—network embedded value is puts forward to describe thecontribution of intellectual intermediary service. It is found that network embeddedvalue are influenced by network characteristics. Thirdly, new perspective to explainregional innovation network and financial intermediary network and indicates thedirections of their intellectual intermediary service.
