Product Quality Development (PQD) is a way to improve people’s lives, enhance the international competitiveness of products, and promote the transformation of economic development mode in China. In this paper, Persistent Effect Mechanism of the Product Quality Development in China is selected as the research topic. By learning from the academic achievements of Product Quality Theories domestically and abroad, the paper explores the persistent effect mechanism of the product quality development and the model of the quality supervision and management by the government, so as to contribute to the practice. Persistent effect mechanism of the product quality development is one of the most attention-grabbing issues nowadays, as well as a strong theoretical and practical issue. Selecting to study the issue is significant in theory and reality. After defining the concept of Product Quality and Product Quality Development, etc., the paper states the indicators and its measurement method, and depicts the history and current situation of Product Quality Development in China since the reform and opening up. Theoretical and empirical analysis is used to explore the operational mechanisms such as supply and demand, price, competition, information and income distribution which affect Product Quality Development in China, based on the time-series data and panel data. Finally, countermeasures of China implementing Product Quality Development are proposed. This paper is divided into nine parts.Chapter1is the introduction. This part is devoted largely to a description of the research background, objectives, research progress in our country and aboard, research content and research methods.Chapter2is an overview of Product Quality Development in China. After defining the concept of Product Quality and Product Quality Development, etc., the part states the indicators and its measurement method, and depicts the history and current situation of Product Quality Development in China since the reform and opening up. Taking Japan as a case, the "Quality Revival Strategies" after the Second World War are summarized and assessed. Finally, theoretical and empirical analysis is used to explore the operational mechanisms which affect Product Quality Development in China.Chapter3is the market mechanisms of supply-demand, price and Product Quality Development. Firstly, this part explores the influence of aggregate supply and demand of product on Product Quality Development. Secondly, the law of supply and demand of product quality and their changes are summed up, based on the principles of economics. Lastly, empirical analysis is conducted, based on the time-series data and panel data.Chapter4is the market mechanisms of competition and Product Quality Development. Firstly, this part explores the connotations, the features and the conditions of the market mechanisms of product quality competition. Secondly, this part studies how enterprises make decision about product qualities when the market is monopoly or competition. Thirdly, the influence of administrative barriers to entry, liberalization of international trade and contestability on Product Quality Development is explored. Finally, empirical analysis is conducted, based on the time-series data and panel data.Chapter5is the market mechanisms of information and Product Quality Development. Firstly, this part studies the information asymmetry and the dilemma of "bad money drives out good money". Secondly, the supply-demand-mechanism of information about product quality is explored by signal transduction and signal screening, in which Cobweb Model is used to depicted the dynamic changes. Finally, empirical analysis is conducted, based on the time-series data and panel data.Chapter6is the market mechanisms of income distribution and Product Quality Development. Firstly, this part explores the influence of the consumer income on the demand of product quality of consumers and the supply of product quality of enterprises. Secondly, the equilibrium between the supply and demand of product quality and the market segmentation are studied, when income distribution structure is diverse. Thirdly, how the Minimum Quality Standards influences the equilibrium between the supply and demand of product quality is discussed. Finally, empirical analysis is conducted, based on the time-series data and panel data.Chapter7is the experience of Product Quality Development in the major developed countries. This part mainly introduces the histories and state of Product Quality Development in United States, Germany and Japan.Chapter8is the construction of persistent effect mechanism of the Product Quality Development in China. Firstly, the paper discusses the self-running-process obstacles in Product Quality Development. Secondly, the paper exploress the reasons why the governments intervene in Product Quality Development, and the way how to intervene. Finally, countermeasures of China implementing Product Quality Development are proposed. The last part states the conclusions of the thesis, and points out some prospects about the future research. The main conclusions of this paper are:(i) Since the reform and opening up, Product Quality Development in China exhibits the following features:firstly, on the whole, Product Quality Development in China has been greatly improved; secondly, the trace of Product Quality Development in China is unstable; thirdly, the quality of strategic industrial products is relatively higher, while the product quality related to people’s lives is lagging behind; fourthly, the customer satisfaction to Product Quality Development is low; fifthly, the development and innovation of new product is so weak that needs to be strengthened; finally, there are huge gaps between different areas in Product Quality Development in China.(ii) The empirical research shows that:firstly, there is long-term stable equilibrium relationship between the aggregate supply of product and product quality; secondly, the aggregate supply of product will affect product quality, but product quality is not the reason of the aggregate supply of product; thirdly, as to the influence of the aggregate supply of product on product quality, short-term effect is greater than the long-term effects.(iii) The empirical research shows that:firstly, in the long run, there is long-term stable equilibrium relationship between the price and product quality; secondly, on the whole, the relationship between price and product quality is positive, but there are huge gaps in the direction and strength of the influence between different areas; finally, the influence of price on product quality depends on non-price factors. (ⅳ) The empirical research shows that:first, in the long run, there is long-term and stable relationship between the degree of market development and product quality; second, the improvement in the degree of market development will promote the product quality; finally, there are huge gaps between different areas in the marginal contribution of the market development to the product quality, and on the whole, western region (including Northeast region) is higher than the central region, the central region is higher than the eastern region.(ⅴ)The empirical research shows that:firstly, there is long-term stable equilibrium relationship between the product information and product quality development; secondly, the product information will affect product quality, but product quality is not the reason of the product information; thirdly, as to the influence of the product information on product quality, short-term effect is greater than the long-term effects.(ⅵ)The empirical research shows that:the increase of per capita disposable income will promote product quality development; secondly, there are huge gaps between different areas in the marginal contribution of the increase of per capita disposable income to the product quality, and on the whole, western region (including Northeast region) is higher than the central region, the central region is higher than the eastern region.(ⅶ) Product Quality Development is a complex system engineering, and is influenced not only by the enterprise’s quality management, but also by the market environment, which include both the economic mechanism such as market competition, supply and demand, price, information and income, and non-economic mechanism such as credit system, institutional environment, quality culture and quality education. Therefore, we should take a series measures to achieve the sustainable Product Quality Development, based on both economic factors and non-economic factors.
