| The score of the computer application is enlarging, and there are more and more computer applications used in key domain. Thus, higher software quality and reliability are required. As the most important technology to assure quality, software testing is more and more important in software development.GIS software testing is still at the immature and incomplete level in the scope of development of software testing in GIS industry. There is Conference of Software Testing of Domestic Geographic Information System directed by MII of China and CAGIS once a year from 1996. It contributes to accumulate experience and lessons, but focuses on the functions of GIS software as the main concern, the significance for guiding practices is not so obvious. The theory and research of GIS software testing based on the features of GIS are also slow-moving. The process of testing remains at original stage, and the distance away from standardization of GIS testing theory and methods is far. Consequently, there are underlying crisis in the quality of GIS software. How to form the effect mechanism with the characteristics of GIS software is a problem of GIS industry.It is significant and useful to research on the key problems and technologies in GIS software testing, for the formalization of software testing process, guide for the further testing, and shortening the cycle of testing, improving testing level and the qualities of GIS software. Based on the reasons above, this paper gives a insight into the key problems and technologies in GIS software testing and make a lot of practice related. The efforts achieved in the paper is following.I. A testing model and framework of GIS software testing based on the features of GIS is proposed. It is regarded as the first key issue in the topic. This paper discuss on the features of GIS software products and problems in testing at first, then makes an improvement of X-model of testing process, and puts it into the process of GIS software testing, and form the testing framework. II. An investigation of the test case design based on the features of Spatial Data is taken on. The test case design is the most essential action in software testing. It is considered as the second key issue in this paper. By probing into the features of Spatial Data, a discussion of principles of the test case design in GIS testing is carried out, and the various solutions according to different testing methods are proposed.III. A serial testing practice is implemented with different testing goals. After summarizing theory and methods of software testing, demonstrating the features of GIS software and Spatial Data, proposing the testing framework and principle of the test case design, fulfilling testing practice under different goals and environments is promotion for development of GIS software testing. Practice with the general methods, practice with GIS software programmed by modern developing methods-00 and CBSD, practice for the automation and tools of GIS software testing are included. |
