With the rapid development of the Internet, it is becoming very popular to transfer image information via network. Because the transfer mode is not only not subject to geographical restrictions, but also is fast and efficient and can save a lot of cost. However, since network owns the defects in the protocol and system etc aspects, in the enjoyment of convenience that network brings, people have to consider how to improve the security of the image information. Image encryption technology is to prevent the important image information from illegal theft or tampering. At present, the image encryption technology has been widely applied to many areas, such as government, military, medical, commercial and personal security system, and plays an important role.Based on this background, the main content of this paper is to research the new image encryption technology so as to improve the security of the image information by DNA sequence and self-assembly as means. The content is divided into two parts, respectively the research of DNA sequence-based image encryption algorithms and the design of image encryption-oriented DNA self-assembly. The new image encryption methods include the following several kinds:1. An image encryption method based on chaos game representation is present. This method is mainly to use the thinking of chaos game representation and combines the particularity of the image information so that the effective encryption of image information is realized. In this method, the natural DNA sequence is used as key as so to further improve the security of the encryption.2. An image encryption method based on Hao fractal is proposed. We improve Hao fractal by using characteristics of image information, and a new image encryption method is presented. In order to realize the diffusion effect of pixel, new DNA sequence operations are defined.3. An image encryption method based on RT-DNA cellular automata is presented. A new cellular automata model is proposed, namely DNA cellular automata. And one-dimensional DNA cellular automata, T-shaped DNA cellular automata and RT-DNA cellular automata are defined in theory and the transfer functions are defined on discrete time. Then, the image information is encrypted by using the new defined RT-DNA cellular automata.Scientific achievements in design of image encryption-oriented DNA self-assembly aspect are as follow:1. One-time-pad image encryption system based on DNA self-assembly is presented. We use DNA self-assembly model to realize one-time-pad encryption system about the image information according to the characteristics that DNA computing owns large parallel and massive storage capacity. Through the self-assembly processes of DNA Tiles, we can construct the self-assembly model, and complete the encryption and decryption processes of image information. A new mode of encryption and storage about image information is provided.2. The DNA self-assembly design of cellular automata that is oriented to image encryption is realized. The general formulas of elementary DNA cellular automata are designed, and designing schemes of elementary XOR-DNA cellular automata and T-shaped cellular automata are given. In particular, according to the characteristics of image encryption, the self-assembly design of image encryption-oriented cellular automata is proposed.
