In resent years, optical fiber communication technology has made extraordinaryprogress.More and more applications need to use fiber optic rotary joint to transmitsignals. The development of fiber optic rotary joint is systematically described in thisthesis.The advantages of single channel fiber optic rotary joint and multi-channel fiberoptic rotary joint are discussed in detail. The significance of developing singlechannel fiber optic rotary joint is analyzed.The insertion loss of a fiber optic rotary joint depends on the mechanicalmisalignments of the fiber collimator.This paper analyzes the single-mode fibercollimator coupling loss on the system coupling efficiency. By studying the lateraloffset deviation, angular tilt deviation and axial separation deviation on the impact ofcoupling loss.The innovation of this thesis:1. Proposed large mode area single-mode fiber with fiber optic rotary joint canreduce requirement of the coupling precision. Analysis the coupling characteristics oflarge mode area single-mode fiber. Large mode area single-mode fiber collimator canreduce the angle tilt deviation.2. Analysis optical characteristics of TEC fiber, tapering fiber, large mode areasingle-mode photonic crystal fiber, large mode area double-clad single-mode photoniccrystal fiber, large mode area double-clad single-mode optical fiber. Those fiber canreplace single mode fiber produce fiber optic rotary joint.3.We produced TEC fiber collimator which beam angle tilt is less than0.1°.Weproduced a single-channel fiber optic rotary joint with TEC fiber collimator whichinsert loss below2dB,rotary insert loss below1dB.4.We tested fiber-optic rotary joint by temperature shock from-40℃~85℃, ourproducts the average amount of insertion loss is0.22dB, foreign products the averageinsertion loss variation is0.43dB.
