Since mid-1990s, China has enhanced the university research on cultural issues as the debility of the university spirit, and universities are implementing new cultural awakening. The incisive judgment of Communist Party of China’s "18th of the National People’s Congress" on "Culture is the nation’s blood and the spiritual home of the people", raised our development and construction of university culture awareness to a new level. University is the product of human culture that developed into a certain stage in the long running practice and education, universities and culture have been integrated, and they formed a cultural community that taking truth-seeking and educating as core, university culture is the foundation and lifeline of university survival, development and commitment of major cultural mission, the heart and soul of university culture is in its spirit. University culture is the lifeline of universities and the spiritual home of the people in universities.Inheritance and development of university culture caused great concern in the community. However, the other hand, from the reflection of the reality of university culture, conflict has become an unavoidable keyword. With the development of society, some changes of organizational structure in universities, repositioning of university teacher-student relationship, the conflicts between Western culture and Chinese culture, traditional culture and modern culture, teacher culture and student culture, academic culture and administrative culture, teaching culture and research culture and so on, these conflicts are all exposed in our sight. Problems caused are also overlooked, the divine sense of the university is faded, someone even criticized universities became secular "Vanity Fair." With the rise of Multidisciplinary Research in higher education, since the mid-1990s, studies of university culture is becoming one of the focus of higher education, and cultural conflicts is a relatively weak university research topics and worth expanding issue in cultural university studies. Conflict is to promote construction and development, only we see the problem clearly, can we identify direction and development of the reform.Based on this rational concern, the paper taking the problem-centered to observe a variety of appearances in conflict of university cultural, trying to see the nature of the problem exists through phenomenon, through the literature research, in-depth interviews, induction comb, come up with strategies to explore the road to solve conflicts of university culture and promote the choosing of university culture, and help universities select and establish cultural awareness and cultural confidence.This paper follows the research path of "issues raised-theory investigation-practice occurred- root analyzing-reform proposals", start from the perspective of "cultural conflict-cultural choice".Specifically, this paper contains the following six chapters:The first chapter is an introduction. This chapter covers the origin study of the conflict in university culture, and indicates the significance of this paper, and then on the basis of a domestic review of the literature to definite the exploration content of research, thus establishing research ideas and methods in order to outline the logical framework of this study.The second chapter is the theoretical analyzing of the university cultural conflicts. Around three key words "culture", "cultural conflict", " conflict in university culture" to start defining the concept and taking Coser’s theory of social conflict, Benedict’s cultural model theory as the theoretical basis for the study:conflict in university culture and cultural cooperation are both the inherent phenomenon in the structure of organization in universities, people tend to blindly regarded cultural conflicts as counter-pathological features of social phenomena, in fact, the conflict in university culture also has a positive function, through group integration, function of stability for structure of the cultural groups that jointly resist the temptation of the outside world and shackles, so as to promote the healthy and stable development of universities; every culture have their values, the various cultural in university is also co-located in time and space environment, lead the development and progress of teachers and students together to grow, so we can not arbitrarily infer which is an advanced culture, which is a backward culture, the key point is when understanding cultural differences, reflecting the cultural conflict, cultural patterns and even more from the spiritual core of culture perspective on reality occurred, and thus comprehensively promote the depth and breadth of cultural studies in university, guarantee the university from the state, society and its development characteristics for selection and the selection of university culture.The third Chapter is the practice occurs culture conflict in university. Focusing problems, identify the key, therefore, from a number of cultural conflicts in universities, this paper selects five more common, easily perceived and realized contents. Specifically related to:conflicts between Western culture and Chinese culture, conflict between modern culture and traditional culture, conflict between teacher culture and student culture, conflict between teaching culture and research culture, and conflicts between academic culture and administrative culture.The fourth chapter analyzes the root causes of the culture conflict in universities. Focus on systems analysis, integrated consideration from the macro, meso and micro levels. First, social reasons, including the invasion of foreign culture, local cultural changes; the second is educational reasons, especially the reconstruction of university idea and transformation of university system; thirdly it is the group reasons, covering group interests of the game differences between group ideas.The fifth chapter is taking Southwest Associated University as a case study sample, to get inspiration in dealing with cultural conflicts and cultural choices and give us inspiration.The sixth chapter is University Cultural Choice in Cultural Conflict. Facing up to the culture of conflict, recognizing the objective existence of cultural differences, making good choice in accordance with national university culture, society and their own needs. We can attribute culture, training objectives and organization mission as the basis of cultural choice to consider. Selecting methods include cultural integration, cultural adaptation, cultural heritage and cultural innovation. Path can be selected from the following aspects:Western and Chinese culture integration and prosperity of Western culture and Chinese culture; inheritance and innovation, the development of modern culture and traditional culture; teaching and learning, collaboration between teacher culture and student culture; science and education integration, active research culture and teaching culture; educating people, linking academic culture and administrative culture.The seventh chapter is conclusion and summary.Since there are not too many people doing the study of the cultural conflicts, and the information is extremely limited, the contents of it is also relatively simple, so this study attempts to seek innovation in the following aspects:first, closely relating to China’s current rapid social transformation background, explore the cultural conflict in the course of the entire university community structure, social mechanism, social attitudes change and adjustment, which made this research more realistic sense of the times, and the theory and practice closer together. The second is a comprehensive, systematic application of the theory of sociological perspective to analyze and interpret the cultural conflicts in university. What are the manifestations of it in the end? What are the characteristics? Thus enriching the cultural studies at the new perspective of:cultural conflict in university. The third is to explore the full range of multidimensional space to solve cultural conflicts university policy. University education is a cultural conflict phenomenon, but also a social phenomenon under the background of the whole society. We interact with the country’s macro context in the field of vision into the community, taking systematic, integrated and global perspective, thus analysis and strive to achieve that through the macro, meso and micro levels, and focus on both teachers and students at the same time. Making this research more systematic, increasing the breadth and depth of this research. Fourth, on the basis of not evading the question to selectively identify the conflicts in university culture. We should making choices in culture conflict in university. This is not only in response to the premise of cultural conflict, but also conducive to the formation of cultural theory and practice of conscious form. Cultural selection embodies cultural awareness. cultural selection is the conscious of culture in nature, human activities and their own consciousness, and it ultimately for achieving better education results. It also provides reference in making choices of university culture.
