A Research On The Moral Function Of College Mental Health Education

As an important area of mental health education in China’s schools, college mental health education has been under a variety of exploration over the last ecade, and plenty of theoretical achievements and practical experience have been achieved. However, following questions still need to be reflected and answered. First, what is the nature of college mental health education? Second, what is the relationship between mental health education and moral education? Third, what role does mental health education play on moral education? Great attention has been attached to mental health education, the fourth subsystem of ideological and political education; however, not enough attention has been paid to the moral function of mental health education, which is its natural attribute. Some existing researches are analyses and categories of the relationship between mental health education and moral education in general sense from the perspective of moral discipline. Some put forward demands on mental health education based on thorough understanding and discussion through moral education lens. The rest clarify its supplementary position and potential role in ideological and political education by making comparison and contrast among ideological, political psychological and moral education. All these researches above feature utility, and instrumentality in mental health education.This paper analyses and presents the moral function of mental health education based on practice of college mental health education and natural attribute of mental health education. This paper serves as the rational basis for the further research of moral function of college mental health education by the means of contrast of the separate functions, predicaments, common grounds and discrepancies between college mental health education and moral education. In addition, this article also expects to improve and optimize the function of college mental health education based on the trend of maximum function after the combination of college mental health education and moral education with systematic analysis and discussion. This paper demonstrates detailed argumentation associated with the thesis-- the moral function of college mental health education.Firstly, the author accounts for the reason and the purpose of this paper. From the practice of college mental health education, the author has found out it needs development, which has to depend on the settlement of bottleneck problem of marginalization in the first place; besides, much work is left to be done with the comprehensive function of moral education. Therefore, the opinion has been concluded that the only way to solve the problems above is that moral education plays its full role on college mental health education, which in turn manifests the theoretical and practical values of this paper. In this chapter, the author puts forward her idea that the research idea, as well as the key and difficult points, lies in the precise induction and description of the internal connection between college mental health education and moral education, and refines the innovation of this research based on literature review research.Secondly, the author gives definition to college mental health education and its function, moral education, and the moral function of college mental health education, etc. Moral education mentioned in this paper corresponds to the traditional ideological and political education, and it only includes ideological education, political education and moral education while the concept of mental health education broadly contains the cultivation of mental health and scientific and objective practical activities in spiritual level such as ideological understanding, moral integrity, and ideal and faith. It also explains that moral education is the essential attribute of college mental health education from the aspects of satisfaction and fundamentality, compensation and improvement, optimization and development. In this paper, the author proves the reasonability and validity of this research theoretically and practically, with Marx’s theory of human needs and educational thoughts as basic theoretical guide, the new trend and outcome of theoretical research of moral education as disciplinary support, educational thoughts like humanism and positive psychology as theoretical and practical evidence, and practical needs of comprehensive development for college students as necessity.In the core of this paper, the author demonstrates the emergence and development of the moral function of college mental health education. Focusing on the improvement of college students’personality, the guide for their ideal and faith, the foundation for forming their morality, and their individual enjoyment function, the author clarifies that moral function exists in college mental health education with unique advantage and the internal mechanism that gives play to its function. In this way comes the argumentation and expectation for the optimization and development of moral function of college mental health education. The author puts forward the idea that the premise for the function optimization is the optimization of college mental health education itself, which includes its nature, disciplines and methodology. In the meanwhile, we must be fully aware that moral education has influence on college mental health education, especially in the relationship and effect of political health, thought health, moral health and mental health. Besides, we can find more common grounds in moral education and college mental health education by making contrast among their guiding ideologies, basic targets, educational objects, educational problems and methods. Lastly, the author discusses the possibility of maximum function of mental-health-and-moral education from four cross grounds, namely personality education, emotion education, life education and living education.The author puts emphasis on the approach choice of moral function of college mental health education. As to subjective practice approach, the author stresses that the moral education resources of the subject, the moral foundation of the objective and the shift between the two characters should be highlighted. As to the carrier approach, the author pays attention to the teaching content, the designation of political person and healthy person in educational activity, mutual-aid effect in students’ society, and the strengthening of leading role of network platform. As to the joint force approach, the author puts forward the idea of liberal education in the whole school, the introduction of student management system and the usage of family education resources, and gives solutions after deep analysis.College mental health education can achieve development only by reconsidering its values and functions, and integrating itself in and jointing with moral education gradually; besides, its advantage and function must be given full play in such aspects as concepts, rules, methods and carriers in grand moral education to comply with its developing trend, and examine both ought-to-be value and to-be value. Only with all these done can we drag ourselves out of the marginalized status of college mental education and moral education and hence promote its development.
