Scandinavia lies in the northern Europe, and it’s just across the water from Russia. In the Soviet and Russian research field, America and Britain are more famous than Scandinavia, but because of the special geographical location and the long historical link of more than a thousand years between Scandinavia and Russia, it has cultivated unique Soviet and Russian research group and academic thoughts in this area. After the cold war, the research of the Soviet and Russian in Scandinavia on the basis of the traditional regional country studies pays more attention to the application of the discipline theory.After the collapse of the Soviet Union, academic research opportunities and potential economic value with the Russian transformation give rise to more input in the Soviet and Russian research field in the Scandinavian countries in the 1990s. The relevant research institutions and researchers have gowned. Hence, the Soviet and Russian research after the cold war in Scandinavia has acquired a series of achievements and achieved an international fame and influence. This attracts the Chinese academic circles’attention.This dissertation mainly studies the development situation of the Soviet and Russian research after the cold war in the Scandinavia academic circles, which means a comprehensive research of national issues and domestic political and economic progress under a framework of international studies. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the explanation of the western theory of transition on Russian issues in limited, so our discussion need to combine the traditional regional and national studies with domestic progress studies. Hence, on the one hand, the author will elaborate the academic development of the field of the Soviet and Russian research in Scandinavia, clarify the characteristics of the research on Soviet and Russian in this area and then observe in this area how academic research interact with decision and affect regional politics. On the other hand, this is also an international political proposition, in order to observe how the development of Russian politics and economy become the academic "mirror recognition" in this area. Why the same Russian phenomenon can have different analysis and explanation in academic cognition of different areas? The bidirectional interation itself has become a significant content in contemporary international political economy. In short, academic cognition has become an important tool in international politics.This dissertation will be divided into three parts, a total of 10 chapters. First of all, the author will explain the historical development of Scandinavian Soviet and Russian research, summarize its current research situation and put forward the preliminary characteristics of the Soviet and Russian research in this area. Then turning into the key research contents, the author will analyze systematically the representative scholars’academic thoughts in this area and draw more nutrition from the standpoint of academic history analysis. At last, the author will generalize its uniqueness and challenges on the Soviet and Russian research.The Introduction Part. The author will describe the origin of his study, research significance in the aspect of theory, practice and academic exchanges, overseas and domestic research status, the basic framework, the main research contents, research methods, as well as the innovation and deficiency.The First Part. The first chapter is the overview of the Soviet and Russian research in Scandinavia. This chapter comprises historical development vein, the current research status and the preliminary summary on the characteristics. The author will review the development process, dynamics and main feature of the Soviet and Russian research in this area and summarize the changes of research institutions, personnel and topics on the soviet and Russian research after the cold war. The initial result means Scandinavian research on the Soviet Union and Russia has the following characteristics:the research topics focus on the meso-level, dispersion shows and they emphasize on interdisciplinary research.The Second Part. From chapter 2 to 8, this part analyzes systematically on the representative scholars’academic thoughts of the Soviet and Russian research in this area. In the view of the discipline and research field of these scholars, three topics are divided. The first topic is the research on the Russian transformation after the cold war in Scandinavia, including the Swedish scholar Anders Aslund’s study on the capitalist revolution in Russia from the perspective of neoliberalism, the Swedish scholar Stefan Hudland’s study on Russian transformation against the background of new institutionalism and the Danish scholar Ole Norgaard’s study on the transformation of the countries of the former Soviet union in the view of comparative politics and economics. The second topic is the research on the Russian history after the cold war in Scandinavia, including the Finnish scholar Pekka Sutela’s study on the evolution of the Soviet economic thoughts from the perspective of the history of economic thoughts and the Danish scholar Niels Erik Rosenfeldt’s historical study on Stalin’s information control system in the view of the history of political system. The third topic is the research on Russian diplomacy after the cold war in Scandinavia, including the Norwegian scholar Iver B. Neumann’s study on the relationship between Russia and the international community (Europe) from the perspective of the recognition of governance pattern and the Swedish scholar Lena Jonson’s study on Russian policies towards central Asia under the concept of zero in the view of policy analysis. Why choose these two scholars is because of the importance of the study object in Russian diplomatic strategy. Europe have not only always been the main partner of Russia in history and the source of western thoughts, but also the important partner in the Russian transformation process. As for Russia, the central Asia is more like a "brother". They have profound historical link. From a realistic perspective, the central Asia is an important strategic fulcrum for Russia in the post-Soviet era and space.The Third Part. The conclusion is that the Soviet and Russian research in Scandinavia strives to relative equilibrium, pragmatic and compatible development. Based on the analysis on the development history of Soviet and Russian research, the research situation and the representative scholars’academic thoughts after the cold war, this part has a comprehensive evaluation on the Soviet and Russian research after the cold war in this area. Relative to the America and Britain which have the culture homology, because of its unique geographical location, historical and cultural traditions and interests demand, the position of the Soviet and Russian research strives to equilibrium in Scandinavia. Guided by the policy demand, it emphasize on pragmatism. Compatible development has shown on the research topics, research methods and research framework.
