Study On The Construction Of Harmonious Relationship Between Ethnic Identity And National Identity

Various contradictions and conflicts caused by the inconsistency of ethnic identity and national identity are almost existed in all nations in all ages. In the modern society with rapidly development of modernization and globalization, this problem has not been fundamentally alleviation, but showing more complex, incontrollable situation. For example, the continuous regional conflicts or wars in today’s world are most closed with the ethnic identity and national identity. That is deeply warns us:to study and understand ethnic identity and national identity as well as the relations, and deal with these problems through effective measures, has a direct bearing upon the unified multi-ethnic nation’s survival. Just because of this, in recent decades, the relevant studies of ethnic identity and national identity are rapidly becoming the frontier and hot spot issues in the humanity social sciences.However, relevant study results either focus on ethnic identity, or focused on national identity, and the systematic study on the relations between the two and its construction are still rare. Guided by Marx dialectical materialism and historical materialism, this thesis firmly take hold on the leading clue of "the construction of harmonious relationship between ethnic identity and national identity ", from the angles of theory, history and reality, making a thorough, systematically study on the relations between multi-ethnic country ethnic identity and national identity as well as the construction, trying to solve the problem of ethnic identity and national identity conflicts, to maintain unity and stability of our unified multi-ethnic, building a socialist harmonious society, the main purpose of this thesis is to offer some theoretical and practical references. The thesis consists of five parts including the introduction.The first part is introduction. It explains the important value of ethnic identity and national identity study, which will help to broaden the new fields of study of Ideological and political education, to promote new development of Chinese contemporary ethnic political theory, to heighten the actual effect of the national patriotism education, to push the building of cohesion of the Chinese nation, and the building of socialist harmonious society; this part make a through literature summarization on the domestic and international research status, which lay a solid foundation for further study; also, it introduces the main concern, study method.The second part defines the connotation of the ethnic identity and national identity, and thinks the relations between ethnic identity and national identity. On the basis of referential review of domestic and foreign scholars viewpoints, this part put forward that national identity is in the process of the national member to contact with other nation’s people, or in the process of acceptance of the local national socialization, it is a self-confirmation to which nation itself belong to by compared with "other nation". Mainly it demonstrate a sense of belonging, loyalty and dedication to the local nation; National identity is that people identify themselves belong to the country and what kind the country really is, it is a mental process. In this process, the individual and the country occurs emotional unification, and the individual expresses remarkable faithfulness to the country’s rationality, shows strong approval, supporting and pursuing to the country’s history and culture, moral values, ideals faith, etc. Moreover, the individual is willing to make a contribution and sacrifice to national interests. According to Marx’s Materialist Dialectics, the relations between ethnic identity and national identity is that of parts and whole, individuality and commonness, which are not only conflict but also symbiosis, it is the contradictory unity full of conflict and symbiosis.The third part bases on the view of modern nation-state building, advances the idea orientation of the relationship between ethnic identity and national identity construction. In the United Multi-Ethnic Country, ethnic identity and national identity are always in a state of constant overlap and interaction, taking on two different tendency of contrast, conflict and mutualistic,which influence the national relationship and social stability in the country. In order to alleviate or eliminate the conflict between the two identities, promote the mutual symbiosis, achieve the coupling and isomorphism of this two identities, each country in the world adopts various kinds national policies, hence forms different orientations of the relationship between ethnic identity and national identity construction, the common trend is homogenous-relationship and multi-relationship construction. However, this two construction trends are got into certain scrapes because of the limitations. Construction of harmonious relationship actualized the exceeding and discard to the trend of homogenous-relationship and multi-relationship construction, so it has actual rationality, and is an idea orientation of the relationship between ethnic identity and national identity construction.The fourth part discusses the goal, principle and support of harmonious relationship construction between ethnic identity and national identity. From the perspective view of long period history, the harmonious relationship construction between ethnic identity and national identity has a primary target, intermediate target and senior target on three steps. Contemporary world in historic period, which decide the harmonious relationship construction of ethnic identity and national identity should be in the range of first and second steps, especially in the first step, it is the direct, near-term target to achieve, and the second target is the medium-term target and pursuit. In the harmonious relationship construction of ethnic identity and national identity, we must uphold the principle of seeking common grounds, basing on the national conditions, taking all factors into consideration and dedicating itself to innovation. The harmonious relationship construction between Ethnic identity and national identity must supported by ethnic economic development harmony, ethnic political life harmony, ethnic culture harmony, ethnic harmony, social welfare harmony, etc.The fifth part takes the construction of harmonious relationship between national identity and state identity in contemporary China into consideration. Based on the upper four parts, its foothold lays more emphasis on contemporary China. As a unified multi-ethnic country, in the construction of ethnic identity and national identity, it bases on the orientation of harmonious relationship construction, and thus obtained the huge achievement. However, the current Chinese harmonious relationship construction also faced with certain problems and challenges, including the shock and challenge in the period of social transition, the infiltration and interference by western hostile forces, instigate and destruction by the "three forces", as well as imperfection of the national policy, etc. This thesis put forward Further ways to solve these problems and challenges:First, to support the Ethnic Minorities and Minority Areas development, advocate and execute the combination of "two common" topics; Second, to combine the improvement of the party and the state’s national policy and strengthening of citizens’national identity; Third, to combine heritage of the excellent national culture and the promoting of common culture of our Chinese; fourth, training ethnic minority cadres and broaden the channels of political participation for minority masses; fifth, campaigned against separatism strictly, legally and long-term common ideological education in national unity.
