Review on reseach is a basic way in the reseach on academic history, by which reseachers can do a possibly comprehensive review and summary to the existing research results and views, and reseach on misreading is another basic way, by which reseachers can do a more thorough thinking to academic history, and reveal the content of the character and meaning of academic more likely. This paper is mainly the reseach about The Scholar academic history, which begins from reseach on misreading, and strive to reach or close to the intention of the writer and the intrinsic meaning of the text by comparison and analysis between The Scholar and related texts. And it is consist of three chapters, that is the misreading about Wu Jingzi’s ideas, the misreading about Wu Jingzi’s background of knowledge, the misreading about the basic standpoint of The Scholar. In chapter one,we mainly analyze a few propositions, that is "Wu Jingzi and Wei Jin celebrity’s demeanor", "Wu Jingzi and Confucianism", "Wu Jingzi and Cheng-zhu Confucian school", and its internal logic is that we analyze the first is that Wu Jingzi’s thought is not to belong to Taoism but Confucianism, and the second is that his thought is not based on orthodox Confucianism but original Confucianism, and the third is that his thought is not opposed to Cheng-zhu Confucian school but accept to the thought of Confucianists’ including Cheng-zhu Confucian school.Reseachers analyze the proposition of "Wu Jingzi and Wei Jin celebrities’ demeanor" from two main aspects, one is that Wei Jin celebrities how to deal with Confucianism, another is that they are based on what kind of cultural background isolating themselves from all society. We find that regardless of the attitude of dealing with Confucianism, or intellectuals’ cultural background isolating themselves from all society in The Scholar are based on Confucianism rather than Taoism, which are fundamentally different from Wei Jin celebrities.Reseachers have two kinds of views on the discussion about the proposition of "Wu Jingzi and Confucianism". One is that Wu Jingzi’s thougnt is based on the orthodox Confucianism, another is that Wu Jingzi’s thougnt is based on the original Confucianism. So-called "orthodox Confucianism" is a wording that significance is indefinite so that it is very likely to have different understanding, and it is more important that we can not accurately grasp the basic content of The Scholar if we understand with the thonght of the orthodox Confucianism, In these two kinds of views above-mentioned, the latter is more appropriate. However, reseachers who have one of these two kinds of views mostly emphasize the progress of Wu Jingzi’s thought and stress its significance of criticism with Cheng-zhu Confucian school, which does not tally with the actual situation. We can find that Wu Jingzi not intentionally confront with Cheng-zhu Confucian school but hold a acceptable attitude and he really criticize the dogmatic of later generations if we carefully examine Wu Jingzi’s attitude towards Cheng-zhu Confucian school. As a reference with the actual historical situation, we find that the portrayal of The Scholar to Wang Yuhui and his daughter reveal that Wu Jingzi does not concern the political issue about the retainning or abolition of Cheng-zhu Confucian school but think the issue how intellectuals should deal with Confucianism of Ming and Qing dynasty which based on Cheng-zhu Confucian school. In chapter two, we focuse on the proposition of "Wu Jingzi and Yan Li School", which put forward by the Hu Shih. Hu Shih proves it cautionnaly, but makes the conclusion quite boldly. In fact, he converts the substantial research about Wu Jingzi’s friendship into the substantial research about the ideological influence, but he does not find the direct evidence that Wu Jingzi accept the influence from Yan Li School. Contemporary reseachers try to verify it, but their evidence are invalid basically. If we carefully examine the proposition of "Wu Jingzi and Yan Li School" from The Scholar, we can say definitely that The Scholar weight morality rather than fame and wealth and honour, and this novel concerns with the spiritual and moral issues rather than human resources issue in the control of the imperial examination system, and Wu Jingzi’s and Yan Li school’s attitudes toward Cheng-zhu Confucian school are completely separately in the aspect of their concern, attitude, point and so forth. In this section,we also compares The Scholar with "Si Shu Wu Jing", Wen Mu Shan Fang Shi Shuo and Tang dynasty’s novels which are the constitutor of Wu Jingzi’s knowledge background, and this section also discriminates the propositions such as "The Scholar and Wei and Jin and Six Dynasties Literature".In chapter three, we discuss the basic standpoint of The Scholar. The proposition of "The Scholar criticises the imperial examination system" put forward by Hu Shih for the objective of "literary revolution".In the 1950s, reseachers also put forward the wording of "anti-imperial-examination" for the objective of the critique in the aspect of thought and culture which be followed by later reseachers again and again. In fact, the wordings such as "anti-imperial-examination" and so forth are extended meaning which put forward by modern people. On the one hand, the wording of "anti-imperial-examination" is quite different with the factual historical scenarios, and is not consistent with Wu Jingzi’s attitude. On the other hand, the wording of "anti-imperial-examination" deviates from and shelters the basic intention of The Scholar. In fact, Wu Jingzi does not criticize the system of selecting official by Bagu style, but concerns about intellectuals’ spirits in the control of the system of selecting official by Bagu style and thinks how they do confronting with imperial examination and fame and wealth. In this section, we also compares The Scholar with other novels related with imperial examination such as Strange Tales of a Lonely Studio and Flowers in the Mirror. In the final of this paper,we further point out that researchers who discuss Wu Jingzi and The Scholar often deal academic propositions with the attitude towards social propositions, and convert the conclusions of social propositions to proposition into the conclusions of academic proposition, which creates the consequence that the conclusions and proofs often be lack of conscientiousness. In this aspect,Lu Xun set an example for us.
