This paper researches the relation of imperial examination system and education in the period of Song, from a new perspective. Which uses poetry as the basic historical data, and the theory of mutual complementation between the history and the poetry. Hoping break through the traditional research mode.From the literary point of view, the period of Tang and Song dynasties was the golden time in the development of education, in ancient China culture. Especially the poetry was called the wonderful flowers of ancient literature, in this era. The prosperity of poetry because of the rise of the imperial examination system, they have a close relationship. As is known to all, in the Tang Tianbao years, the court established uses poetry as the main criteria in the Jinshi examination, although this measure brought certain negative effects on the quality of poetry, but on the development of poetry brought positive effect is more significant. In Quan tangshi included of more than 40000 poem, almost 2500 of them related to imperial examination, covering almost the Tang Dynasty all the famous poet, this phenomenon indicates that the imperial examination provides for the prosperity of poetry support.The early Northern Song Dynasty, the imperial court still uses this practice that established in Tang Tianbao years, has become a prosperous reason poetry of this period. In the Shenzong period, the Court adopted Confucianism as the imperial examination content, Especially Wang Anshi took Sanjingxinyi as imperial examination content, resulting in the scholars’ knowledge of the stenosis, the shallow emptiness, which leads to the decline of literature. Even scholars said at the end of the Northern Song Dynasty as a "cultural desert". So, the poetry of the Song Dynasty and the rise and fall of the imperial examination content changes has a direct relationship.In view of the history, the early years of the Northern Song, in order to maintain a stable regime, rulers attaches great importance to the role of imperial examination system.
