From 1912 until 1949 Chinese social patterns and ways of thinking went through extreme changes. The concepts of old-school traditional Chinese opera and other performing arts collided with the New Culture Movement, the National Drama Movement, and the new National Drama Movementetc.,producing two completely different schools of drama theory. In regards to the most activeperformingart, Peking Opera carried the main assignment of researching and developing the fields of opera and dramain theRepublican period. On one hand, the old-school Chinese drama concept continued developing in the time ofthe Republic of China, and Peking Opera theory waspushed to the center becoming a the main theory of drama. Therefore the Chinese "drama school" theory changed from the way it was of old, to what it became after the 4th of May movement, by the confrontation of many worlds; China and the West, new and old, graceful and vulgar, the changing and the unchanging, and in this process many questions of drama and the stage were answered. Under these dual circumstances, the researcher explained opera stage practice philosophyfrom a new perspective, and the theory gave birth to a new unique style of opera performances.Special research areasappeared targeting certain actors or artistic features, independent studies of skills for opera performances as well as clothing, makeup and other stage performance elements.Apart from these specific studies, other research and related aesthetic performances made breakthrough progress, and reflection of opera performances took on a more theoretical perspective. Peking Opera performers began to explore the aesthetic spirit, and academic and scientific concepts were clearly defined, this process didn’t only see the literati participating by theoretical studies, but also included good interaction with the artists. After an author’s self-examination was completed and the contribution of cultural identity and practice by artists and literati were added, fit and worked together it created a flourishing opera stage. This gradually led to the theory of opera performances, a more rational direction of the arts, and alsosome main features of theory forthe rational study of opera and performing arts in the Republic of China. The Republic of China was the heyday of Beijing Opera and opera theory, furthermore it was accompanied by an unprecedented development the performing arts. But the theoretical achievements waslack of systematic, science.
