The central task of this paper is discuss the development and practice of historical materialism in China by putting the the historical materialism under the dual dimensions of philosophy and history. In terms of the real role in the present Chinese society, the position of historical materialism which mainly discussed in the field of politics and philosophy, is closer to Chinese traditional learning of Confucian classics. But for the own development of the historical materialism itself, the position of the historical materialism is closer to the general historiography. In order to avoid the conflict between the development of the theory and the realistic function, the study of historical materialism need to mantain a balance between theory and reality.Chapter Ⅰ. Present situation and the basic context of historical materialism in present Chinese. Try to discuss the basic meaning of the historical materialism in the basic context. The so-called basic context, in this paper, is the the basic premise of thinking and language environment in the present China when facing discussion and research on the historical materialism.Chapter Ⅱ.
