A Study On Jiannandao In Tang Dynasty

Jiannandao was one of the key areas of the Tang Dynasty, and it was also the important Military Governors of Southwest Region in that time..Jiannandao was very unique position, whether in the political, economic or military. This paper aims to study the development of Jiannandao in the Tang Dynasty, and it’s affect to Tang Dynasty, In addition to preface and conclusion, the text consists of four chapters. Respectively, from the four thematic such as political geography, Jiedushi, central-local relations and Frontier Defense System to explores the interaction between the central and the Jiannandao.Political geography:This subject mainly studies how the political process to affect evolution of administrative division of Jiannandao. During the Changes the division of Jiannandao was the most important event.From 757 to 767, there were many important changes of administrative division in Jiannandao. In 757, Jiannandao was divided into two provinces——Jiannandongchuan and Jiannanxichuan by Emperor of Suzong who hoped to clear off the power of Xuanzong. At first, Mianzhou probably was the seat of Jiannandongchuan, In 764, border crisis in southwest compel central government to combine the two provinces.Jiedushi subject:After 734,Jiannandao(Xichuan)Jiedushi have experienced four stages.Zhangchoujianqiong,Xianyuzhongtong and Yangguozhong formed a group which was supported by the Emperror Xuanzong during Tianbao years.However Xichuan Jiedushi gradually were assigned by the military attache after Anshi’s Rebellion.Under the influence of the internal and external factors,JianNanWest was always in surgency during The period of Su and Dai Dynasty.The third stage is civilian political era which Xichuan-Jiedushi were almost all assigned by senior civil servants.Finally, Xichuan-Jiedushi was controlled by Tianlingzi who was the most powerful eunuch in Xizong Dynasty.Southwest fontier defense system:This chapter investigated the fontier defense system in Xichuan,Chuandianxidao and Chuandiandongdao.Roughly,there was three deep defense line in Xishan.The weak water formed the first line.The upstream area of Minjiang River was the second line of defense,and Tang Dynasty had large numbers of troops here. Pengzhou and Guankou formed the last line. Yaozhou,Guizhou and Dadu River composed the defense system in Chuandianxidao. Inexplicably,Xichuan was threaded by Nanzhao in half-century.It was partially because military power in the south of Dadu River was weaker. Chuandiandongdao was the last defense system in Xichuan whose significance was relative low.
