Research On The Basic Theories Of Chinese Traditional Painting Criticism And Contemporary Significance

During its history of more than one thousand years, the critical theories of Chinese traditional painting has developed an unique aesthetic system, which has a social function of "showing references" and the traits of "liberating the spirit"、"Self-amusement", etc. The system has created an aesthetical standard of valuing "flavor" and "image", and the painting criticism has long been into the stage of self-consciousness. After the strong impact of western modern and post-modern art in the modern times, the Chinese painting criticism, as a comparatively complete system, along the road of "a fusion of the Chinese and the West","gradual transition from the tradition", has made a glorious achievement. But within the context of modern times, the traditional painting criticism has shown a tendency of decline and has reached an historical turning point of construction as a focus. so it is natural to raise the question of "what are the criteria of evaluating Chinese modern painting".In the face of the strong language of the Western painting criticism, the Chinese must keep a foothold in its own tradition of criticism, must think independently about the essence of painting, must dig the concept and the meaning of the traditional painting criticism.This thesis treats the traditional painting criticism as an integrated object of study, gives a whole carding of important categories of Chinese traditional painting criticism, investigates the philosophical sources of its thinking, discusses the road of its quest in the modern times within the horizons of the Chinese and the West.The thesis specially analyses the current situation of the lack of local language in the painting criticism of today.
