Bronze inscription can provide valuable firsthand data for studying ancient chinese history. Dating bronze is the most important precondition for playing the historical value.From Song Dynasty,brones are recorded according to the times.In the1930s,Liang Zhou Jin Wen Ci Da Xi of Guo Moruo systematically date about250Western zhou brones for the first time,which opened a new history of brone dating for nearly100years that a lot of research achievements are obtained. The purpose of this article is to review the research history and summarize the research achievements.The primary coverage of this essay constitutes by three parts. The first part is review the research history of brone dating in three stages, focused on introducing academic activities and methodology of brone dating,such as standard brone method and typology method. The second part is the table,in which We list the dating opinions of the western zhou brones with inscriptions from1911to2010.There are26types of vessels and musical instruments, including zhongbo、 ling、Ii、yan、bi、ding、gui、xu、fu、dou、you、zun、zhi、gu、jue、jia、gong、he、hu、 lei、fangyi、shao、ling、pan、yi、yu,5000brones in total.We list the dating opinions、works and reasons in time order. The third part is to introduce the development of posthumous name and words dating methods in detail.The research of Western zhou bronzes dating is a process of constantly tend to be more mature, we hope that the comprehensive organizing work on previous research results, to be able to provide a platform for the bronzes dating research in the future.
