The Workmen’s village in ancient Egypt is such a village built near the tomb ofpharaoh. In the period of ancient Egypt, there are three famous workmen’s villages,namely the Lahun, the Amarna and the Deir el-Medina. This dissertation will studymainly on the Deir el-Medina, a workmen’s village, built in18thDynasty where theworkmen settled, and these workmen work for Pharaoh’s tomb there. Deir el-Medinabegan in the early time of18thDynasty and terminated in the end of20thDynasty.Then I will concentrate on the documents in Ramesside Period(19thand20thDynasty)in this dissertation because we can obtain more documents in this period. In order tomanage these workmen and arrange the construction of pharaoh’s tomb, the scribe inDeir el-Medina should often record the situation of Workmen’s village which shouldbe reported to the higher rank officers. With the development of modernArchaeological excavation, these documents have been excavated in quantity, some ofthem were related to the economic administrative activity of officers. And the mostimportant thing is the exact date records in these document, it will not only bebeneficial to us to know the history and the background of that period, but also willshow us the new way to study the administrative mode in ancient Egypt.This dissertation falls into three parts excluding the preface, main body andconcluding remarks. The preface introduces the development of Egyptology andresearch situation in recent years.The main body is arranged as follows:Part1, the study and the analysis of the economic administrative documents inDeir el-Medina in Ramesside period.Chapter1, the introduction of Deir el-Medina and the historical backgroundduring the Ramesside period. This chapter introduces three workmen’s village inancient Egypt, and gives a detail information on Deir el-Medina. Furthermore, thischapter gives a brief introduction on the historical background and the tomb ofpharaoh.Chapter2, the study of the pharaoh and the vizier in Deir el-Median during theRamesside period. This chapter analyses the administrative mode which the pharaohand vizier utilize.Chapter3, the study of the royal butler in Deir el-Median during the Ramessideperiod. This chapter presents the royal butler’s administrative mode and their statues in this place, based on the analysis of documents on royal butler.Chapter4, the study of the policemen in Deir el-Median during the Ramessideperiod. This chapter shows the position of policemen in the administrative system ofDeir el-medina, based on the the analysis of documents on policemen.Chapter5, the study of the scribe and the workmen in Deir el-Mdina during theRamesside period. This chapter demonstrates the function and statues of scribe andworkmen, based on the documents on the scribe and workmen.Part2, the collection and the translation of economic administrative documents inDeir el-Median during the Ramesside period. This chapter collects and translates thedocuments according the international rule firstly. In addation, I transliterated themand made the commentary in this chapter.The conclusion sums up the effect and importance of economic administrativedocuments in Deir el-Median.
