"Postmodern" Contemporary Ink Painting With Taiwan

This dissertation, Postmodern and Taiwan Contemporary Ink Painting, is a thorough study of the influence of Western post-modern on Taiwan contemporary ink painting. Nowadays, Postmodernism makes a great impact on the spirit of compositional style in Taiwan; which may also lead the change of art on local and international aspects. The various examples can be proved by Taiwanese postmodern artists and multiculturalism in this contemporary era.First, the author introduced the definition and history of Western postmodern and also the difference between contemporary and postmodern in order to reveal the intension of contemporary art. Moreover, the discussion goes back to1949, when the Nationalist Party Government moved to Taiwan, the contemporary ink painting in Taiwan has developed its feature. The study of ink painting in Taiwan includes (1) the controversy of legitimacy and aesthetics;(2) contemporary and anti-traditional;(3) the clues of the postmodern; and (4) the traditional is one of the components of postmodern. After the development of local movement influenced the Taiwanese ink painting, the Taiwanese political affair "relieve the human rights" in1987divided the art between modern and postmodern; and also accelerated to construct the contemporary Taiwanese ink painting. Also, the personal painting style has tended to be a variety of styles in times, and the portraits of contemporary figures became more and more popular.In the regard of the representative artists of postmodern Taiwan contemporary ink painting, the author refers to senior Chinese ink painting artists and Taiwanese contemporary ink painting artists. Furthermore, the author discusses the observation of Taiwanese postmodern ink painting by local and international viewpoints; examines the contradiction of postmodern ink painting itself; and summarizes the cultural spirit as a subject of postmodern ink painting. In conclusion, the dissertation is a study with Taiwan contemporary ink painting and its external and internal influence, as well as the reflection of culture and prospect.
