‘Space’ is one of the most important concepts in human which is formed in theprocess of undersatanding the world on a variety of things, events and relationships, and is reflected through the language forms of expression. Taking Chinese andKorean MOTION EVENT sentences and some relevant grammatical phenomena asthe investigation subjects, the paper argues that the agreement of [(UN)BOUNDEDNESS] feature at the sentence level can be a crucial semantic constrainingprinciple for the syntax. By using written language data from Chinese and Koreancopora and also a parallel corpus, the author observes Chinese and Korean MOTIONEVENT sentences and PATH lexicalization patterns and their distribution in thesentences. With the description the author investigates the semantic contraintsunderlying the sentence structure and lexicon selection. Each chapter can be briefly summarized as below:Chapter1is the introduction of the reserch question, the objects, meaning andthe method.Chapter2is the literature review, which focuses on the history and currentsituation of Chinese and Korean reserch on the MOTION EVENT, and raised thefeasibility and necessity of the spatial semantic study on the concept of [path]concept.Chapter3introduces the theoretical basis of the reserch, which includes Talmy’stheory of Conceptual Event Lexicalization, the theory of Lexical Semantics and thetheory of Boundedness.Chapter4starts from the observation on the lexicalization patterns and syntacticarrangement of lexical units in expressing MOTION EVENT and PATH element in bothChinese and Korean. And then, by studying the schema of the PATH concept, it isfound the SPATIAL BOUNDEDNESS is a very important feature in the configuration ofPATH concept. As a following step, the author classifies these linguistic units in termsof the SPATIAL BOUNDEDNESS feature and augues that the SPATIAL BOUNDEDNESSfeature plays an important role in sentence structure and lexicon selection. In otherwords, all the lexical units need to be in agreement on their SAPTIAL BOUNDEDNESSfeature.Chapter5is the applicaiton of this BOUNDEDNESS agreement principle. Itexplains the case alternation problems(“-” and “–//”;“-” and “-”)in korean MOTION EVENT sentences. The last chapter is a summary of the full paper, and points out the weakness ofthe reserch and further discussion.
