Empirical Research On Personality Characteristics Of Vietnamese Youth

From the perspective of cross-culture personality research, referring to the mode of the western the "Big Five" personality and Chinese "Big Seven" personality research, this paper uses the lexicology hypothesis method in personality research to study empirically on modern Vietnam youth personality. It systematically analyses the similarities and differences among Vietnam culture and Chinese and western culture, putting forward a particular proposal that there exists similarities in Vietnam youth personality and Chinese and western. On the basis of that, it enunciates this study’s general idea and research route, defining the need to develop a questionnaire about Vietnam youth’s routine experience and Personality panorama. It employs documentary analysis, questionnaire method, interview and mathematical statistics. This study discovers:1、The self-developed questionnaire Vietnam youth personality is consisted of19items, following the rigorous questionnaire developing procedure. After data analyzing, the questionnaire with a good reliability and validity, meeting the criterion of psychometrics, can be used as a tool for Vietnam youth personality research.2、Vietnam youth personality is a four-dimension structure, including agreeableness, shrewdness, sense of responsibility and openness. Agreeableness includes6factors, gregariousness, kindness, staidness, circumspection, charm, obedience. Shrewdness includes3factors, carefulness, self-discipline, and steadiness. Sense of responsibility includes3factors, conceitedness, honestness and good faith. Openness includes3factors, flinch, smartness, and warmth.3、Although the personality structure of Vietnam youth has cross-culturally something in same with Chinese youth, there are still some differences. For example, some dimensions of Vietnam youth personality are the same to the western and Chinese youth, but the connotation of the factors are not completely identical. The factor, sense of responsibility, is unique in the personality structure of Vietnam youth. 4、Openness is the most outstanding personality characteristics in Vietnam youth, followed by agreeableness, sense of responsibility and shrewdness.5、There is significant gender difference in shrewdness and openness. The male is higher than the female. There is significant regional difference in agreeableness and openness. The youth in center region is lower than the south region in agreeableness. No significant difference exists between the north and the center, between the north and the south... The youth in the north region is lower than the south region in openness, and the center is higher than the south. There is age significant difference in shrewdness and sense of responsibility. Age from12to14is lower than15to18in shrewdness.12to14is lower than above18in sense of responsibility.6、there is interaction between gender and region in agreeableness. And it also exists among gender, age and region in shrewdness. So is between gender and region, between age and region in sense of responsibility. No interaction exists among age, gender and region in openness.
