The Zhuang Clan in Changzhou is one of the prominent clans in Ming and Qing Dynasties in southern Jiangsu, which is well-known of Zhuang Cunyu. This clan is famous on success of imperial examination, a large number of Juren, Jinshi, scholars and officials. This paper focuses on the history, the imperial examination and education of the Zhuang Clan in Changzhou during Ming and Qing Dynasties, to analyze the reasons for the prosperity of Zhuang Clan in Changzhou.Research method is a combination of literature textual research and statistics. Using of Piling Zhuang genealogy literature, the writer featured the nearly five thousand members of Zhuang Clan in Changzhou’s names, birth and death, education, the official and the marriage. Then using of genealogies, official history, local history, epitaph, anthology, etc. contained in the literature, the chronicle, biography, writings, writer made statistics, compiled information and analyzed the reasons for the prosperity of Zhuang Clan in Changzhou.In addition to the introduction, the paper is divided into four chapters.Chapter I:"The literature of the Zhuang Clan in Changzhou during Ming and Qing Dynasties". The writer studied on the Zhuang Clan’s genealogy, literature about imperial examination and biography literature. First, the writer studied on existing version of the editing features, directories, examples, writing process of Piling Zhuang genealogy. That the Piling Chuang genealogy is high historical value of the "chronicle","descent" and "writings","the admonition". Second, the literature about imperial examination and biography literature of the Zhuang Clan in Changzhou are plentiful, which laid the foundation for this study.Chapter II:"The history of the Zhuang Clan in Changzhou during Ming and Qing Dynasties". The writer studied on the clan mansion, population, fertility, migration and marriage. Studies suggest that the Zhuang Clan in Changzhou stem from in the late Ming Dynasty, the formation of a quarter patterns. Among them, the second is the most flourishing. The first is very few officials. The third is none of officials. The forth cut off at the eleventh generation. The second is on the better economic conditions and mainly resided in Changzhou city. Their offspring migrated to Suzhou, Hangzhou and Zhili. Other Zhuang Clan members mainly resided in Changzhou village, less migration. The population of of Zhuang Clan flourished in the mid-Qing Dynasty, while the huge loss in Xianfeng and Tongzhi, restoring in Guangxu. Strict adoptive ensured the continuation of the future generations of the clan. The Zhuang Clan in Changzhou established contact with other prominent clans through marriage.Chapter III:"The imperial examinations, officials and academic of the Zhuang Clan in Changzhou during Ming and Qing Dynasties". The writer studied on Juren, Jinshi, officials, scholars, and writings. Studies suggest that there are many ranking front, young adults, a North championship try of Zhuang Clan’s Juren and Jinshi. The literature have retained a lot about the the Zhuang Clan’s imperial examination elephants. Officials of the Zhuang Clan were the few high-ranking officials. They served the Imperial Academy, also served as the examiner in the imperial examination, and made a contribution to local education. They also wrote books and academic attainments. Their books are over the classics, history and literature, especially the classics and literature.Chapter IV:"The education, tour and friends of the Zhuang Clan in Changzhou during Ming and Qing Dynasties". The writer studied on imperial examination’s, academic, morality, talent, female education, tour and friends. The clan put great importance to the children education and teachers, made efforts to preserve the family collection, Moral education, talent training shaped the character of the clan members. Many women in the clan wrote books, play an irreplaceable role in the education. After the abolition of the imperial examination system, the tribe to accept and participate in setting up the new style schools, and had made some achievements. The clan also focused on making friends, traveling and cultural practice and theoretical education supplement.This paper suggests that the reasons for the prosperity of Zhuang Clan in Changzhou are the economy of the imperial examination support, the children education, the clan motto, the role of women in education.
