Focusing on the images of the Qing Dynasty’s Dream of the Red Chamber, this article probed into the relationship between images and texts. Firstly, the article integrated and briefed images in Qing’s Dream of the Red Chamber. Then, as the start point, the two descriptions of pictures in Dream of the Red Chamber were discussed to reveal the relationship between texts and illustrations. After that, the essay showed how images crash the ’frozen moments’ to elaborate the story in every Augenblick unit. Finally, from the aspects of daily life of Qing Dynasty and the visualization of the Dream of the Red Chamber, the article explored what triggered the world of images in the Dream of the Red Chamber against the historical background, and the frescoes on the corridor’s wall of Palace of Eternal Spring in the Forbidden City were discussed in a separate charter. Focusing on the audiences’ perspective, this article expatiated how the text of the Qing’s Dream of the Red Chamber transformed into images. For all the audiences, images and texts will be transformed into internalized feelings and meanings, and the homogeneity of the images and texts is the ability to illustrate the stories. The figuration of images for the Dream of the Red Chamber, which independently developed outside the texts, gradually constituted the collective visual images of the cluster. Image world is born out of texts, and then it transforms into ’general knowledge’ as daily logical language described. The mutual transformations----text-image-text---actually contain the historical depth of the receivers and interpreters’ self-awareness. Therefore, this article challenged the traditional competitive and opposite relationships between images and texts, emphasized the mutual transformations between them, and attempted to reconstruct the ’integrated’ intimate relationship between them. |
