Every language has its own perspective and is unique in its own way. Each country’s thought and culture are deeply embedded in. Speakers combine existing vocabularies idiomatically to express their own opinion precisely and lively to their audience. These idiomatic expressions have unique historical, social and cultural background of the society; therefore, the mastery of idioms requires high level language proficiency. Due to the unique nature of idioms, accurately understanding and freely using idiomatic expressions are utterly important in language learning.This thesis aims to compare, analyze and assess the idiomatic expression listed in Korean Language and Literature, Korean textbooks used in Chinese elementary and high school and Korean and Daily life Korean,7th grade Korean textbooks used in South Korea. It also surveys the current situation of how the education of idiomatic expressions is practiced among Korean-Chinese schoolsFirst chapter lays out the previous research in the field and introduces the definition and characteristics of idioms. We also research the idiomatic expressions in syntactic and semantic perspective and how it can serve as criteria to judge idiomatic expressions. After examining theoretical background of education of idiomatic expression, we will establish category of the idiomatic expressions (the objective of education of the idiomatic expressions) and examine its aim and significance.In the second chapter,6books of Korean Language and Literature in China and12books of Korean/Daily life Korean of the7th middle school curriculum in Korea will be used as the source for data. Idiomatic expressions extracted from these books were classified by using a program called SynKDP1.5. The following criteria and methods were adopted in data entry process. First, a list of idiomatic expressions was compiled from Korean Language and Literature of Elementary and middle school in China and Korean/Daily life Korean of the7th middle school curriculum in Korea and each expression was classified based on the its morphology and contents.In chapter three, according to the result from the classification and list in chapter two, we will compare and analyze general idiomatic expressions. We also analyze current education of the idiomatic expressions in Korean Language Process Standard and7th Korean Education Curriculum. By using the result from the previous analysis, we compare similarity and difference in the aspects of educational content, terminology and idiomatic expression list. In chapter four, we will summarize the content of this research.This study provides a preliminary study of idiomatic expressions and it serves as a basic reference to point out the future direction of the education of idiomatic expressions. By using this analysis data, we try to examine the characteristic of educational process and the characteristics of teaching technique for the teaching idiomatic expressions. The findings of this study may shed some light on the idiom education of Korean both in China and in Korea.
