Vocabulary is an important link that cannot be ignored in English learning. As the main source of language input in middle school English teaching, the presentation of vocabulary in textbooks will directly affect the quality of vocabulary teaching. Therefore, this paper analyzes the vocabulary cohesion in the Middle and high school English textbooks of The People’s Education Edition, and mainly studies the following issues:1)What is the change of vocabulary in the reading text in the process of linking the middle school textbooks with the high school textbooks in the Human Education Edition2)What is the coverage of words in the vocabulary of junior high school PEP textbooks in the reading texts of senior high school PEP textbooks?3)What are the changes in the vocabulary difficulty of reading texts in the process of linking the junior high school PEP textbooks with the senior high school PEP textbooks? In order to answer the above questions, the author built a corpus of junior and senior high school English textbooks, based on Krashen’s input hypothesis and Vygotsky’s zone of Proximal Development theory, with the help of four tools,Range32,WORD,EXCEL and Phonetics finally draw the following conclusions:First of all,the vocabulary of middle and high school English textbooks of the People’s Education Edition presents an overall increasing trend. However, from grade nine to grade one,the vocabulary of textbooks increases in a large span, and there are some unreasonable links between the vocabulary of textbooks.Secondly, the overall coverage of the vocabulary of middle school textbooks published by The People’s Education Edition in the reading texts of high school English textbooks is not high, and the overall coverage of high school textbooks presents a declining trend. In addition, the junior high school vocabulary that appears repeatedly in high school English textbooks is mostly some simple words. Finally, the difficulty of vocabulary in the process of linking the junior high school textbooks with the senior high school textbooks shows a spiral increase, which conforms to the cognitive law of students. However, the vocabulary difficulty of textbooks from grade 9 to the first semester of grade 1 of junior high school varies widely, and the vocabulary difficulty of textbooks from grade 1 to Grade 2 of senior high school decreases rather than rises, which affects students’ mastery of textbook vocabulary to a certain extent.Based on the above research results, the author tries to put forward some suggestions on students’ level, teachers’ level and schools’ level through the data obtained in this paper,so as to help students make a smooth transition from textbook vocabulary learning in junior middle school to senior high school. |
