BackgroundIn vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) is widely used all over the world to solve the problem of infertility. But it also brings some complications, the most serious one of which is ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). The occurrence of OHSS is related to the ovarian reserve of the infertility women, the ovulation induction programme, as well as the ovarian response to the exogenous gonadotropins. The aim of this study is to investigate the possible effect of past history of IVF and the occurrence of ovarian hyperstimulation to ovarian response.MethodsTwo hundred and three patients, who met the inclusion criteria and were not in line with proposed standards, were recruited from Women’s Hospital School of Medicine Zhejiang University from Jan1,2010to Dec31,2014. There are four hundred and twenty-five IVF cycles in all. All patients were documented causes of infertility, age, height, weight, basal serum hormone values and antral folliclecount, the program of ovulation induction, the value of serum estradiol on HCG injection day and the dosage of HCG, the date of oocytes retrieved, the number of oocytes retrieved, the rate of normal fertilization, the occurrence of OHSS. This study does an analysis on the information as above to get the final conclusion.Conclusions:1. Previous history of IVF doesn’t change ovarian reserve, but can increase the ovarian response in the short term, which should be an risk factor for the occurrence of OHSS.2. The occurrence of ovarian hyperstimulation is maybe harmful to ovarian reserve, thereby affecting ovarian response.
