Video display terminal syndrome is in optical display terminal (computer terminal including a display, a cathode ray tube, a keyboard for data entry, as well as television, video games and other types of) operation caused by a series syndrome, also known as Computer Vision syndrome (CVS).ObjectiveTo observed on a regular basis as to the effect of acupuncture treatment together with Chinese medicine, to improve the syndrome of CVS. Objective evaluation of the efficiency of acupuncture together with Chinese medicine treatment on CVS.MethodThere were 90 patients selected from my clinic’s patients who meet the inclusion criteria of the video display terminal syndrome, which include patients from both gender aged between 15 to 65, were accepted to take the clinical treatment. They were divided into three groups randomly:A. Acupuncture only; B. Chinese medicine only (Wolfberry andChrysanthemum Dihuang Pills); C. Acupuncture together with Chinese medicine. Group A:Acupuncture;Group B:Chinese medicine-Taking one dose a day during the 10-weeks treatment period (five weeks for a course); and Group C:Acupuncture together with Chinese medicine:Acupuncture once a week, for duration 30 minutes for each course,5 times for a course, a total of 2 courses.Based on the main acu-point:Jing Ming, BL1、Yangbai,GB14、Zanzhu, BL2、Yuwei thru’ Yuyao, HN4、Houxi,SI、 Yanglao, SI6、Guangming, GB37、Yuzhen, BL9、Yemen, SJ2、Fengchi,GB20。 Taichong, LR3 thru’ Yongquan, KI1、Hegu, LI4、Thru’ Laoguan, PC8、Baihui, DU20、Naohu, GV17、Weizhong, BL40、Zusanli,ST36。Results1、The 90 patients who meet the selection criteria were observed throughout the course and none of them were falling or, excluding cases.2、Baseline data of three groups were compared, respectively, in terms of gender, age, syndromes, disease duration and education level. And the resulting data were statistically analyzed using SPSS22.0:3、Three groups between groups in terms of gender distribution were compared by chi-square test, the difference was not statistically significant, suggesting that the three groups were comparable gender comparison.4、Comparison of three groups of age,the first of three sets of data do normality test, can be considered to approximate a normal distribution, then using analysis of variance, the difference was not statistically significant, suggesting that the three groups of patients aged relatively comparable.5、Three groups in the composition of the age groups were compared by chi-square test. The difference was not statistically significant, suggesting that the three groups were comparable age structure comparison.6、Compare the course of three groups of patients by using analysis of variance. The difference was not statistically significant, suggesting that the course of the three groups of patients with relatively comparable.7、Eye symptom score of the three groups and the total score data follow a normal distribution, analysis of variance were used to make a comparison. The statistic distribution of other symptom score is not normal; multiple independent samples rank sum test was applied. After several independent samples rank sum test, showing that the treatment on head symptoms, physical symptoms, cognitive function and efficiency among the three groups comparable.8、Comparison of the clinical efficacy of the three groups of patients: In the Chinese medicine group, there are a total of 30 patients, which 12 patients were cured, with markedly effectiveness in 9 cases, effective in 7 cases, and no change in 2 cases. Total effective rate was 70%. In the acupuncture group, there is a total of 30 patients, of which 26 cases were cured, marked effective in 3 cases, effective in 0 case, and no change in 1 case,. Total effective rate was 96.67%.In acupuncture together with Chinese medicine group, there is a total of 30 patients, of which 26 cases were cured, marked effectiveness in 4 cases, effective in 0 case, and no change in 0 case. Total effective rate was 100%. As can be seen, the best efficacy was acupuncture together with Chinese medicine group. The second was the acupuncture group and the last was Chinese medicine group.9、Comparison of each period of three symptom score:After the first course of treatment, paired comparisons rank sum test was applied to the efficacy comparison between the three groups before and after treatment. P value less than 0.05 were found. It is noted that the condition after the first course was better than first come from the average rank comparisons. After the first course of treatment, multiple sets of independent sample rank sum test were applied to compare the efficacy of symptoms between each two groups. P values of three groups of patients with eye symptoms, head symptoms, physical symptoms, cognitive function, symptom scores were found to be less than 0.05. The result shows that there are significant differences between the three groups on each of their overall score. The data shows the need to conduct comparison between each pairs. After a correctional factor of α’=0.017 was applied, the result show that P value is less than 0.01 in the eye symptom scores. It proved that the efficacy of eye symptoms in acupuncture together with Chinese medicine exceeds acupuncture group, which further exceeds the Chinese medicine group after first course of treatment. After two courses of treatment, multiple sets of independent sample rank sum test were applied to compare of the efficacy of symptoms between each two groups. P values of the three groups of patients with eye symptoms, head symptoms, physical symptoms, cognitive function, symptom scores were found to be less than 0.05. The result shows that there are significant differences between the three groups on each of the overall scores. The data show the need to conduct further comparison between each pair. After a correctional factor of a’=0.017 was applied, the results show that P value is less than 0.01 in the eye symptom scores. It proved that the efficacy of eye symptoms is best in acupuncture together with Chinese medicine, the second being acupuncture, and the third being Chinese medicine after first course of treatment. ConelusionChinese medicine, acupuncture, and acupuncture together with Chinese medicine could effectively improve the video display terminal syndrome. The three groups all have improved symptoms on the patient’s eye, head, somatic, cognitive function and working efficiency. The group on Acupuncture together with Chinese medicine group works best, followed by the Acupuncture group and the least effective being the Chinese medicine group.
