Purpose:The aberrant sialylationcan mediate pathophysiological key events during various stages of tumor progression, including adhesion, invasion and metastasis. Sialyltransferases play a key role in a variety of biological processes. The aim of this study is to evaluate the expression of ST6GAL1in breast cancer tissue, analyze the correlation between ST6GAL1and E-Cadherin, and discuss their prognostic value.Method:Kaplan Meier-plotter was used to analyze mRNA of ST6GAL1for prognostic value. Breast cancer tissue was collected with complete medical record in Shanghai Cancer Center from2000to2006. Immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of ST6GAL1and E-Cadherin. Their prognostic value was analyzed retrospectively.Result:High mRNA expression of ST6GAL1in breast cancer had less relapse risk (HR=0.85, p=0.0096).381patients were included in this study. The positive expression ratio of ST6GAL1was65.6%, The positive expression ratio of E-Cadherin was61.2%. Between hormone receptor positive and HER2negative group, the expression of ST6GAL1and E-Cadherin was significant different, but there was positive correlation between ST6GAL1and E-Cadherin. ST6GAL1showed strong prognostic value in hormone receptor positive and HER2negative subgroup (HR=0.538, p=0.018). The patients with ST6GAL1and E-Cadherin positive had better outcome than other subgroups. Conclusion:The expression of ST6GAL1was significant different in molecular subtypes of breast cancer. There was positive correlation between ST6GAL1and E-Cadherin. Analysis of ST6GAL1and E-Cadherin can provide prognostic information for special subtype of breast cancer.
